Medicare Audit

Published

I work for a home health agency, I am in the field. We are currently being audited by Medicare. My DON is having the RNs in the office "audit" ALL our narratives. My question is;

Can my DON tell me to write a "Late Documentation Narrative" (write new narrative and change the date) and tell me specifically what to say in the new note?

If she is telling you to legally write something that is true, then the answer is yes. You can always do an addendum to your notes, with the correct date. (Dated today, written for whatever day it was that you worked.)

If she wants you to do it in a way that is not legal, don't do it.

If it is for something that you did not do - or something that you don't remember doing - don't do it.

By the way, if what she is demanding is time-consuming, you should get paid for your time.
