Hello. I am hoping to start LPN classes in May @ Tenn Tech . I am trying to get a head start on the course content at home while I'm waiting. I have been told that the 2 things I should start with is Med. Terminology & Med/Surg. I have also been told to purchase these 2 books within the "For Dummies" series. Now I am new at this, but that sounds silly to me. Is this really the books I should use, or is there others better suited for the beginner? I would appreciate any insight you could give me.Thanks:confused:

I have the Medical-Surgical Nursing Made Incredibly Easy book & I really like it. I wouldn't really suggest buying the actual med-surg book until you are required to do so. The med-surg books are expensive, and if you don't need it until second semester they could have a different edition or textbook by that point. At my college we didn't take Med-surg until semesters 2-4. First semester was nursing fundamentals, assessment, skills, pharmacology & clinical. So if you are getting a "head start" I would probably suggest starting with medical terminology & fundamentals. It is really hard to get into med-surg content when you don't have a primary understanding of the nursing process. They do have nursing fundamentals in the incredibly easy series as well.
This is just my two cents!! Good Luck to you!

I think i would find out what med/surg book youd be using during the semester and order that to look at, that way you will have your book for classes, and can get a start early. The text books, i think, give a really good start for beginers!
