Medical School where you work as an RN?

Any RNs out there ever tried applying and been accepted to the medical school associated with your university hospital? I'm highly considering this! Everyday I want more and more to be a physician. Currently I work in the ICU and I'm blown away by the knowledge shared at rounds. I've always wanted to be a doctor and I'm very curious. Today I made a phone call to my medical school and was encouraged to apply and told nurses have been accepted before, especially nurses that work at the university hospital. This gave me so much hope!

I am driven and prosper academically. I was the kid who had all AP classes in high school and graduated with honors. Highly competitive and motivated. I am torn between CRNA and MD. I believe being a nurse could provide me a clinical and confidence advantage with patients. Academically, I tend to rapidly absorb material. I love mathematics, chemistry, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.

So any nurses here ended up in the medical school where they worked as a nurse in the university hospital?

You might find studentdoctor interesting or helpful. Most nurses probably move on from this site once they've made a commitment to medicine. I imagine it's not a common switch, but it does happen occasionally.

My daughter is a doctor and several of her classmates were RNs. What I have learned is the amount of education you need.If you do not have a BS you need to complete this with the pre med requirements, then take the mcats and apply to medical school. Even if you have3.8 gpa you may not get in your first cycle. Then after 4 years of medical school you will have to apply for residency where you will get paid less then the nurses, depending on your specialty plan on 3 or more years. If this does not scare you off apply
