Medical exam before Embassy Interview

hello to everyone,
Im new here in the forum,Hope you could help me just to clear my mind. just finished my medical exam. If ever i had a problem in my health.Who will be the one to inform me...St.Lukes medical center or the US embassy.I had already my xray film with me and a copy of my immunization.Hope you can help me just to clear up my mind...peace :mad:

Hello you are welcome . I believe it is the med doctor,s duty to inform you should there be problem which I believe there wont be any. Relax and prepare for embassy interview .All the best.

With regards to this topic... I would like to ask something re: my bestfriend's case. She's quite concerned if she might get denied of a visa even after completing all of the necessary foreign exams. She was diagnosed having minimal pulm. tuberculosis upon entering Nursing College but she was admitted to the school after being referred to the school physician and was advised to complete medical treatment. She did. And right after completing the meds, her xray results revealed that the scar is still there but showed remarkable clearing and is already inactive.

So going back to the present... will she be denied if her Xray results from St. Luke's Hospital revealed the healed scar? I heard that St. Lukes just advises to bring the old films for comparison but I also heard some that said that as long as you have a scar, you will be denied coz the PTB is just lying dormant in your body.

Anybody who know anyone with this experience? :idea:

If there is a medical problem, St Lukes will be the one to inform you and they will also do additional test to rule out the problem.

BTW, as for me...how could I possible prove that i have been immunized w/ certain immunizations? I lost my baby health record. =)

What immunizations are required exactly?

If it is healed then she does not have to worry. Once a person has TB and is cured , a scar will always show in her x-ray. and they will do some terst to confirm if the scar in the film is active or not. She will receive her visa.

If you were given BCG, you will always test positively for TB and the only way to do confirm if is active or not is through sputum exams. x-ray will just tell there is a lesion but it will not say if is active or not. Only the sputum exam will.

BCG actually will no not cause the person to test positive for life, that used to be the thought, but not any more.

It is thought that the person who lets say is positive 25 years after having the injection was in contact with the disease at some time during their life.

Infectious disease physicians are now automaticlaly treating anyone that has a postitive PPD more than fifteen years out after having the BCG. For one, due to the large number of cases of TB in the Philippines, and other areas, they have decided to treat those that could have just been carriers, and they are considering those to be, in many cases.

You will now find many facilities giving PPD skin tests to those that have had BCG in the past for this very reason. Was not like that three years ago, but it is now.

Once you have had treatment for the TB, then there is no issue with you coming to the US. The medical exams overseas are still currently requiring a CXR for all, but do not be surprised that if you come to the US and your facility does the PPD.
