Medical Assis./Sec interview Tuesday.. question about how much to share

Published

Hi all, I have an interview on Tuesday for a Medical Assistant/Secretary position. I'm very excited and normally don't get shaken up by the prospect of an interview. However, this will be my first interview with a hospital. I worked in marketing for 6 years, went on many many interviews and had it down. With this, I don't know how much to share and what to expect. I left Marketing to become a nurse because my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away only months later. I took a leave of absence when she was diagnosed, and was her caregiver until the end. During that time I realized I could be doing so much more to help, I never felt like what I did made a difference which was a point of contention, and so I left after she passed. I don't want sympathy, nor do I want to look like "poor me" ..if they ask why I left should I just say because I wanted to help (short & simple?). Also, my interest in this position is to gain experience in a hospital environment. To me that sounds selfish? In an advertising environment it's typical but I don't know how that would translate. I obviously, ultimately, am interested because I love working with and helping people. I just don't know how to approach sharing these things without sounding "fluffy." I've read up on all of the typical interview suggestions, but I'm most interested with what others think these questions.

Also, anyone else have to do a data entry assessment?

Either way thanks in advance :)

Career change. i would say because you became your mothers cg you realized a calling to healthcare and are making a career change. Talk about the steps you've taken to make this change. Think about translatable skills from marketing to healthcare, like communication, reporting, etc...

Good luck.

Thank you Tom!
