Med Tech before LPN/LVN?

I will be attending LVN school this fall and have already aquired my CNA but will need to work part time while in school. Would it be helpful to my future studies for LVN if I were to get a medication administration certification?

I worked as a med aid for about 4yrs before I became a nurse which helped me a lot in pharmacology :) The more you are around medications the more familiar you will become with them. If you plan to work while in school being a med aid may help you with your nursing classes.

What knowledge will be learned in CMA school that I will be able to be used in LVN school? I understand that CMA's can only admin oral meds here in TX.

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

I would say that it couldn't hurt in any way. Even if you learn about meds you can't administer as an LVN in your state, if you were to later pursue your RN, you'd have that much more of a head start on the other students.
