Med Surg to Nursery. will i be bored?

Published

i have been in med surg for almost 3 yrs. i am currently looking at a transfer to level 2 nyrsery. i was admitted to midwifery school, but due to juggling many family things, it isn't a good time, and i'm not even sure that is 100% where i want to end up. I'm just a bit frustrated since Med/Surg wasn't my first choice post school, but I am now comfortable, my heart's just not in it. And I suppose I.m nervous about change.

Ugh. Please tell me your happy, satisfying stories about nursery!!!

babies are not boring. Since they are non verbal you really have to hone your assessment skills. They CHANGE rapidly. Their parents are your other patients.

Specializes in NICU.

I was a cardiac nurse for many years before I switched to Newborn Nursery, NICU.

Nursery and NICU are NOT boring, I assure you. I learn something new every day, and totally enjoy my job.

I'm a lot like you in the fact that change can be dificult for me. It is a different kind of nursing, and you have to change the way you look at a lot of things, but it was the best career move I have ever made. I LOVED my cardiac patients, but I REALLY LOVE my babies.

Good luck tyo you!!

Specializes in home health, dialysis, others.

Do it. Stretch yourself. Each baby is a unique individual. Any job can be boring if you are not enthusiastic.

Best wishes!

For me nursery would be boring. NICU would be fun, but they all seem to keep the lights down low and I would get sleepy too often! But it's not what *I* think would be boring or fun, it's what do you think? If it were me, I'd try it for a while. If nothing else, the change will make it interesting for a while at least! And maybe it will lead you towards what you really want to do.
