  1. So not having worked 1250 hrs there, even though I have been an employee 12+mos w 50+ employees, I don't qualify for FMLA?
  2. I am a labor nurse and 7mos pregnant. I recently interviewed for a float position at a big hospital where I am per diem. This is my 4th and last baby. It's a great position and I've waited for this opportunity although it's really awful timing. Wondering if I qualify for FMLA bc I am an employee albeit per diem? And how does one negotiate maternity leave when your are still on orientation? Part of me is considering declining bc it is such bad timing but we all know how we kvetch once we finally get that offer!!
  3. i was just offered a l and d perdiem at overlook. any insight into the hospital? is it a good place to work? thanks
  4. hi! i'm posting here because i am at a crossroad... i am a new labor nurse, was med/surg for 5 yrs. i have given great thought to midwifery school and now know after my 7 mos in labor that i will end up there. however, in my attempts to leave my present position, (hosp where i am is a small community place very heavy in medical views and practices of birth..) i was called to interview at both Overlook and Mountainside this week. lucky me, both HRs called. i'm really looking to get into a teaching hospital with midwives and get that exposure. i delivered at Mountainside with my midwfe. I know I will get some great experience there. does anyone have a reference point w either? i've been hearing great things about overlook. i am going per diem for either, with the opportunity for a benefitted position at some point if i am happy there and get tuition reimbursement for finishing my BSN. anyone have any ideas about rates? thanks
  5. thanks for your help!
  6. i have been in med/surg for almost 3 yrs. while i know i won't stay as a staff nurse for my career, i can't decide on a next move. during undergrad, i was pre-med. went as far as to take the mcats. i have a strong pull toward forensics, but don't have a clear idea how i can apply nursing towards it, or even what field i can work towards other than medical examiner. and i am not planning on pursuing med school at this point. the question i'm posing is.... does anyone have any info on getting into forensic or forensic nursing? i was recently told by a pathology resident that you can work in that field as a PA, a large hosp by me hires them in the morgue for example... thanks for any info!
  7. i have been in med surg for almost 3 yrs. i am currently looking at a transfer to level 2 nyrsery. i was admitted to midwifery school, but due to juggling many family things, it isn't a good time, and i'm not even sure that is 100% where i want to end up. I'm just a bit frustrated since Med/Surg wasn't my first choice post school, but I am now comfortable, my heart's just not in it. And I suppose I.m nervous about change. Ugh. Please tell me your happy, satisfying stories about nursery!!!
  8. i am currently working in med/surg, for the past 18 months, my first RN job. it's my dream to go into L&D, possibly for a midwifery track. the current opening is FT nights 3 12s. i'm on days and although i'm excited about L&D, i am nervous about the switch since i have 2 boys at home, 3 and 7. tell me i could survive nights!! any good pointers??? anything? i really think OB is my calling. i just need to survive the schedule... :redbeathe:nurse: thanks!
