MED SURG!!!!!! HELP!

Clears throat... Sorry for the loudness, but I sit here and I wonder... Will I graduate nursing school, because I find myself being so detailed! It really kills me. Or am I doing right by doing so? I mean, the program is accelerated, and no matter how hard i try to stick to the BIG PICTURE, I almost always end up floating distantly to the paint brushes used, colors chosen lol! Ok I'm just being silly, but honestly how does one reset from being detailed or should one stay this way because I find that even though it's taking me a lot longer to grasp, I have detailed logic!

So the question is should one stay detailed in an accelerated program just to pass the tests, or should one be ultimately prepared?

The entire point is to LEARN the material. You have to do what's best for you and your style of learning. It's not just about how to get by on these tests. You have to know this stuff because if you don't you might kill somebody. I think I know what you mean by "big picture" and I've heard others say it, but frankly I think it's a load of crap if it means discarding detail as an exchange. The very smallest details give the largest clues. Of course you have to see all things functioning together, but it's really not going to matter what the big picture is if your parts are lacking in quality and substance.

I knew I wasn't just sounding like a "know it all.''this is how people view me in class. they look at me like " child as long as i pass my test!" thank you so much because now i can relax myself, if i am going to be a nurse i want to be a good one, not relying on everyone to teach me the basics of what i should know when i graduate and get into the work field. i figured this will help me to be more confident and safe when i start working so that i may learn pretty fast. because they say "you learn everything when you graduate." but who wants to learn the basics and the "big picture" while working? certainly not me.. thanx again =) i'm back on my A game!

Yeah girl, keep your head up! Details are the "fun" part of nursing. They are what make stories great and are what save lives if they are noticed in time!

You are doing the right thing, don't worry with those who can't see the forest for the trees. They are losing sight of nursing as a CARETAKER role and focusing only on the GRADE PASSING nurses. You need both! And your answers will be there in the details!

I do the same thing! But honestly, I can't understand a process fully until I pick it apart and learn all the "details" first. You have to do what is right for you. I couldn't do it any other way.

Thanx guys, this is what I've thought all along.. And then you struggle because you see everyone getting ahead but still not even being able to explain why this or that is the result of such.. Me being the detailed person that I am, I know I won't change.. If nursing is meant to be, then I'll end up being the best nurse that I can be! :D
