Med error fired called state- new nurse

I am a new nurse, just about 1 yr experience , i was hired at an assisted living facilty , i was fired for a med error. my Don said i gave aspirin at a wrong time - i felt terrible , she said it happened multiple times and they are also informing the state. I told her i popped it by accident , the facility marks there blister packs by different colors for QAM , HS and BID meds but it can get confusing at times - i told her i wasted the medication. I never had been written up or had any issues, i asked for probation anything . They refused and said i was fired and they are going to audit the med cart. Don said its there policy and they are concerned about patient care , but no harm was done because i never administred the medication. They had me work the rest of the shift , i was so upset , i was trying to focus but now all i keep thinking is they are auditing me and i cant remember what i did. I cant believe i just got my first job and they called the state. They reported i gave aspirin mulitple times at wrong mar time code , and upon audit "15 med errors were found that may be contributed to me " ( thats what the state complaint says)

what should i do ? Is my nursing career over ?

Immediately call your malpractice insurance provider to inform them and ask how to use your license defense benefit. Ask if they will give you the name of the attorney they want you to use. Then make an appointment with that attorney.

They made you work the rest of your shift???? Something does not even sound right here. If they thought you were so dangerous and that you had committed as many as 15 medication errors why would they not dismiss you on the spot? Something smells here. I pray you have malpractice insurance, either way you need an attorney to help you through this mess. Don't talk to anyone else about this situation and keep your head up. You will get through this.
