Hello forum,
I'm a relatively new nurse (just over a year) working in long term care as a floor nurse and as MDS coordinator. My problem is that, this MDS position was given to me with no formal training. I got the manual and a backlog of MDS's and was asked to go to it. I'm teaching myself as I go along and have searched the internet high and low for sources that would help me learn more about this subject. Also, does anyone know where I can find CEU subjects that cover MDS?
Any information would help - thanks for your time.
Dear Greytnurse,
You can find the Florida Risk Management Institute on line , just type in as follows: FloridaRisk.com
or their e-mail address is as follows:
I wish you much success at your new position! Down here in this region, most facilities give the job to LPN's because they don't have to pay them properly. How is the pay where you are?
I hope they will also pay for your education, and travel expenses down here!!
Again, you go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!

PS:
If you are the MDS coordinator you really shouldn't be working the floor. MDS's are a full time job and your facility would be wise to concentrate on getting you on track with PPS and medicaid compliance than having you work the floor.
