MDC 2009 Spring Hopefulls!!!

U.S.A. Florida

ugh- Where shall I begin... BLAH- didn't get accepted into MDC's Nursing Program first time around. Application is in for the spring. This application round Ive completed all pre-reqs and co-reqs

Have my A.A -- 71 credits hrs 3.45 gpa

Science gpa 3.57

Overall cum 3.26 :crying2: (retaking a 4 credit hr class; it will definitely put it in the 3.5 avg after this fall term)

A bit confused because i'm not exactly sure whether acceptance will be based on my A.A gpa or my cum gpa? Does having the A.A even help any? Some-1, anyONE please give me a glimpse of hope>???

AnyONE else on the same BOAT here?

RNinthemakin,

Hey! I am in a similar situation. I have an AA and my overall cum GPA is a 3.28. I also applied to MDC nursing school for Jan. 2009. I am not looking forward to getting an acceptance letter because I really don't think it will happen. But if I don't get accepted, I have other plans.

As for answering your questions, I really don't know if overall cum GPA is what they look at or just the pre-reqs GPA. I asked the advisers and they said it is the overall cum GPA, but some other people that are in the nursing program said it is just the pre-reqs. So I don't know. I also wondered the same thing, but can never be sure about that answer.

It is a tough position to be in. Waiting is the hardest. I read some of your other posts and I see that you applied for the fall at MDC. What happened? What did they tell you? This would be my first time applying and I am not going to give up if MDC tells me know. They are after all not the only school out there.

I wish you the best of luck and don' give up your dream. :)

Hey KAD24,

thanks for the reply! It's nice to finally meet someone I can relate to with my situation -- Grr LoL I actually havent applied to any other schools... Cost of attendance @ MDC is extremely CHEAP and it's near me... Kinda a silly reason why I'm persistant about trying to get into their program but I figured what the hell. And yes I did apply for the fall term and totally got my rejection letter :icon_roll kind of embarassing actually-- Don't give up and we should definitely keep each other posted! I wish you the best of luck and who knows, we may even be classmates in the spring! By any chance, do you happen to know when letters will be going out?

Hey RNintheMakin,

I spoke to someone at MDC and they told me that the letters start going out the first week of October. I am not sure how accurate this is, but we will see. MDC is one of the cheapest, but it is a hard nursing program to get into because and only because there are so many people applying to their nursing program because it is cheap and people think it is easy to get into. But their waiting list is too long. It is sad that if you are not perfect with your pre-reqs, you will not be accepted--no matter how much of a great nurse you will be. But I am not going to count on MDC. Don't think of a rejection letter as embarassing, but just an obstacle to overcome. I admire you for continuing to pursue MDC nursing school. I am right now looking into other schools. I have heard so many good things about Barry, FIU and Nova. Do keep me posted on what happens and I will keep you posted as well. Good luck to you too with all that you do.

Hey RNinthemakin,

I also applied to MDC for their Spring 2009 term! I applied to both their Generic and Accelerated tracks! Good luck to you. I applied to the Fall Accelerated program and didn't get in, so don't feel to embarassed! :wink2:

Hey FSUmiamiboy! I wanted to wish you LUCK! I did my AA @ fsu! What did you study there?

Yes!! GO NOLES!!!! LOL! I miss it sometimes!!! Have you heard from MDC yet?

haha I definitely MISS FSU alot! I have not heard from MDC....the wait sucks! I'm really hoping to finally get into their program but I'm kinda expecting the rejection letter. This is actually kinda silly but I actually also applied for the Phlebotomy Program as a back up so I can start getting hands on experience, just incase I have to apply again for the fall term of 2009--eeeek! Whats your GPA, if you don't mind me asking.

hi RNinthemakin! My GPA is a 3.5, and you???? When I first applied to the Accelerated program, it was a 3.3, and then I got rejected! Then I took two classes to boost my GPA and now I have a 3.5, which still doesn't secure my admission! I'm very scared. I applied to both the Accelerated and the Generic, but I will choose Generic is IF I get into both! Let's pray!!! What's your GPA?

HEY FSU! My AA gpa is a 3.4, overall cum -->3.26; sucks BUTT! After this semester, it will be a 3.5. Messed up at FSU my last semester and now retaking that class--ugh! And I think you DEFINITELY have an chance for the spring term, you have a great GPA! I'm not expecting to get accepted in the spring, but if I do we should consider becoming study BUDDIES, I hear the Nursing Program keeps you crazy busy lol

Hey RNinthemakin! That would be awesome!!!

I don't get it though, because I thought they only weigh classes that you've taken at MDC? That's the impression I was under!! Did you ever receive a letter about an information session? Or no? Let me know!

I have no clue what they look at ANYMORE. lol I wish I would have just applied TO a BSN program...But everything happens for a reason. They're kinda silly with how they make their selection, and some of the students who are accepted, in all honesty, I feel don't deserve to be there. I have not received a letter regarding the information session, have you?
