MDC RN part-time program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I'm taking my last 2 classes before I can apply to the MDC RN part-time program. Does anyone know if getting into the part-time program is harder than the full time??? And if anyone out there is or has been enrolled PT, what is the schedule like? I work full time and will be paying the expenses out of pocket. I work 9-5pm nearby the medical campus.

I really appreciate your help !!

ugh this is teribble news for me. I have a C in PHI and 2 F's in CLP (back when CLP was PPE1005). I took those courses years ago before I even thought about a nursing career. I just applied to BCC to take CLP as a transient student. ENC 1 I have an A.

My selected degree is an AA in Nursing.. now I understand that "program gpa" which is at 2.94 (im guessing its the CLP F's)

Im thinking PHI and CLP repeats/fails from years ago may ruin my chances...am I doomed?

Don't lose too much hope. My friend got accepted into the program @ MDC with an AA degree and it worked to her advantage. I am not sure how to explain it....but, because she completed a degree it was almost as if she started fresh. But again, I am not sure. Ask an advisor about how an AA degree effects your GPA and chances of getting accepted into the nursing program.

I love this site! I have seen and called so many advisors. I feel like Im getting the best information from here. Thanks everyone for investing your time and helping out others.

With that said, I think Im going to focus on retaking CLP and getting A's in A&P.

Any advice on Micro? Im terrified! Should I leave that for last?

I see that you live in Broward. I am on the Dade-Broward county line myself and I attended MDC's North campus for science classes. I took professor Climente Fernandez for most of my science courses and I got an A each time. He is a great professor!!!!

Also, I took my English course, CLP, speech and a few other classes online. I find that with the online classes you do a little more writing, but the teachers are fair and practical. I have passed every online class with an A, because as long as you do the assignments and read your book, you get a fair grade. If this option interests you I can give you the names of the professors that I had.

I agree Nips.. I took Prof Clemente last semester for Micro and got an A..hes a little hard to understand if u dont speak spanish, but overall is a great teacher. And he gives lots of x-tra credit assigments.

Great advice. I live in Hallandle Beach, and I also go to North Campus..Im going to check out Clemente for Micro. and Im going to drop Mac 1105 from my schedule and add SPC. I need to concentrate on my program reqs and my program gpa. I was doing things a little backwards. Advisors there have misguided me frequently, sad huh.

I have a question for FutureRN1976 and SouthernAsh... I was told as well by an advisor if you have an AA already they waived all the general education requirement. I do not know if this is correct though. We all are on the same boat with the GPA battle. I currently have my A.A. already from BCC my overall cum GPA for the A.A. is 3.4, and my prerequisite for the RN program is a 3.8, I just don't know since I have my A.A. already will they just count my science GPA! HELP!

Hi GT,

An advisor at the medical campus (MDC) told me a couple of weeks ago that if you have an AA, SPC1026 (speech) and CLP1006 (psychology of personal effectiveness)

FutureRN, thanks very much for all of the information, I will definitely get this A.A. thing cleared up, I am going to call them and double check once more.

Hi GT,

Did you ever call and find out about the AA and general education reqs being waived?

Update on me: Im currently taking A&P I with the lab on campus. CLP and SPC through Virtual College.

In degree shopping mode (because I am officially seeking an AA in nursing)

this is where I stand right now. Im hoping that after this semester, the 2 F's in CLP will be replaced with an A, and my gpa will really go up.

Question: which of these 3 gpas should I be looking at? (im sure its a dumb question, so sorry in advance)

AS PGM GPA 3.35 (this one)

AS MY INST CUM PRO 2.85 (or this one?)

ALL CUM GPA 3.09

wus crackin yall

i just wanted to show so love to my fellow part-timers out there doing it big working 40hrs. a week and doing NS part-timer. i'm on the grind right now workin nights (check the time, i wish i had a life) not stuck at work)! tryin to push that GPA up i got micro with Fernadez right now (Remeber I of the Tiger from Rocky) tha song kicks ass ! but i got a question can you apply to generic RN program partime without all the pre recs done ? i saw on another post somebody got in missing a few ? AND they got IN ?

I applied while I was in the process of taking A&P II and Human G & D and I was accepted. Then, I took Microbiology during the summer before I was to start this fall.

At this point, you are eligible to submit a program application to the Nursing program even if you have not yet completed the following General Education courses: DEP 2000, PPE 1005, SPC 1026, MCB 2013 and CGS 1060. Although those courses can be taken along with nursing courses, we encourage that you complete them before starting the Nursing program. You are also encouraged to apply to any applicable option that is convenient to you.

Thats from their website..

Well, I retook CLP and got an A which replaced the F. I also took Anatomy I + Lab and got A's in both. All this with SPC (virtual college) and also got an A.

Term GPA 4.0 (had to stick that in there. woohoo!!! 4 A's this semester) hehe

AS PROGRAM GPA 3.59

All Cum 3.34

Im taking Anatomy II + Lab, Microbiology, and Nutrition now in the Spring.

With these classes currently on my schedule, and with a 3.34 ALL CUM, do you think it's worth a shot at sending in my application? (for fall of '09)
