MDC Online LPN to RN

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this site and greatly enjoy the information that is posted. Is there anyone out there that has taken, will take, or knows someone who has taken the LPN to RN Bridge at MDC? I am curious to how the program is structured and most importantly when are the clinicals. I would also like to know what the typical schedule is for the full-time RN to LPN. I have read alot of posts and no one has really addressed the MDC LPN to RN Program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advanced:lol2:

ok. i was provisionally accepted, now what? i feel terrible because i do not think that i am as excited as i should be. i received the letter on yesterday, i immediately knew what it was, and it took about 15 minutes before i even read it. as i read the letter there was i smile on my face but shortly afterwards i put it on my dresser and did not look at it again for about 6 hours. i did not call anyone telling them that i was accepted. i told my mom late in the evening and that was it. i did not text or email anyone either. i did however comment on my post (1) and that was it. i commented on another post this evening.

should i be more excited? i have worked hard but...someone said that the realization has not "hit me" yet. i think contrarily. i think reality has set in and now i am thinking about the financial implications. although i have been saving in anticipation of this very moment, is it going to be enough? what if i have to scale down my work hours? what about my mortgage? will my supervisor accept?

will i be dedicated to studying long and hard? am i going to make it through the program? i have heard stories about classes starting with 50 people and ending with 5. what if i am one of the 45 who cannot cut it?

what about my children? when i told my son that i was going back to school he said "oh no, you're going to be studying all the time!" i explained this move is so that we can have a brighter future and that it is better now than later. i think he understood. what about the younger ones? they will almost never have quality time with me. i promised my daughter that after i finished we would go on a 7-day vacation to wherever she wanted. she looks up to me so much and do not want to let her down.

i think that i am just nervous. i will do well. i will succeed. failure is not an option. i will make it!

"for i know the plans i have for you," says the lord. "they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."

jeremiah 29:11

I am very nervous too. I am doing accelerated and now that the reality of it is coming to fruition, I am so scared! I am nervous about finances, nervous about not being able to spend as much time with my family, nervous about my husband starting a new job at the exact same time and what if the kids get sick, etc, who stays home? Deep breath.... but it will all be worth it in the end.

Im going to apply for Spring 2010 for the online option as well beacuse I need my 3 day shifts at the hospital to pay the bills.. Can you give me info on your GPA? How did you do on the NACE? How was your scores? What did you study from? How were the questions? What about clinicals?

Hello and congrats on getting in ....I am in the online transitional program at

MDC, Semester 1 out of 3. I work fulltime, the

transitional online program gives you that flexibility of studying whenever

YOU can without having to drive to campus.

The workload is just as intense as the face to face program. You get weekly

reading assignments and chapter quizzes. Midterms are proctored so you have

to take them at a MDC campus. The clinical hours have to be done in

person...but they do offer Saturday clinical rotations...except for the

Psych rotation..it has to be done in the weekdays/mornings.

No regrets so far and glad that MDC has this program available.

Hope this helps....and for those that think it not possible...it is....just stay

motivated and it can be done.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks so much Hnic0522,

I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my question. I went ahead and signed up for the bridge online option. Now I'm just waiting for orientation. I would like to get a jump start on reading, but I dont know where to start. Would you mind providing info regarding which classes I would be required to take during the 1st semester, also the required books for the 1st semester as well? I would be most appreciative. You mentioned that the tests are proctored, does this mean that I would have to make arrangements with the testing center for each proctored exam, or is it a scheduled event where everyone in my assigned group would have to show up to take the exams in a classroom? I ask only because I work full time days, and my employer is NOT very flexible when it comes to variations in my schedule.

My other concern with online is that you don't get the benefit of the lectures and the ability to ask on the spot questions when further clarication is needed. How do you know what to study in order to prepare for exams? Do you study everything, or are certain outlines provided for the exams? Do you feel that you are at a disadvantage in any way with the online option? Please advise.
