Hello from South Florida. My daughter recently relocated to Pittsburgh and is expecting to deliver my grand son in November. What can you tell me about McGee's L&D? What is the nurse/patient ratio? Anything you can tell me... you know... concerned mom seven states away. I'm just beginning my L&D rotation in less than a month. Wish I could be there.
Thanks
Kat

I don't know about ratios and so forth, but being from Pittsburgh, I do know that Magee's Women's Hospital enjoys an excellent reputation. Your daughter and grandbaby will be in good hands!

Hello RNKittyKat and Congratulations!!!!!
I don't know what their ratios are like there, but I had my son there and so did my aunt and I was really impressed with their care. Magee's Women's Hospital is considered one of the top Women's hospitals in the country and they are very progressive with their care.
I also had complications (the rare form of severe preeclampsia that develops after birth) and they picked up on it right away and gave excellent care....even when they thought I wasn't gonna make it for a while there.
So, don't worry....she'll be in good hands! Let us know when she has the baby!
Take care,

I had my hysterectomy at McGee, it is a wonderful hospital, clean, good nurses and doctors. I don't know anything about the maternity ward but the hospital does have a good reputation.
Thank you for your reponses. Everything about Magee so far has been positive. I was alble to let my daughter know that she will be in good hands. She's expecting Thanksgiving week. Every laboring woman I attend will remind me of her. Unfortunately, I doubt I will be able to get away until Christmas. The good news is that not only will I be able to help her as a mom, I will also be able to help her from a clinical nursing perspective.

I work at Magee as a biomedical research technician while in nursing school. Magee is a wonderful hospital. The doctors are very knowledgeable and the staff is extremely helpful. All of my coworkers have had children at Magee and had not had any problems. After graduation, I want to continue working there as a nurse in Obstetrics.
Julie is switching to Mercy. Almost in the final month now.
Why is she going to Mercy???
Don't get me wrong, it's a good hospital too, I used to work there! I'm just curious! Did something happen?

Did she have the baby yet ? Did all go well???Let us know .....Both hospitals are good....
No, she is still expecting. She's been at 1cm for nearly two weeks now. She was 50%. She's at 38 wks and ready to pop.
I got to visit Magee on my recent visit. A very impressive facility! I would be happier though if she had chosen a CNM rather than these residents. I don't think she knew she had that option. At least the CNM would have gotten to know her and she would have felt more comfortable asking questions. At her visit on Friday, the resident didn't do a lady partsl check or do a Leopolds. Wish I was there!!!

Is she going to McGee or Mercy?????Like I said both hospitals are good ...I think at Mercy the dept is small and the new moms get extra special attention....
