  1. Not enough information...is this a trauma center?? What is the staffing on 11-7 and weekends??? Is OB involved?? Is there an in-house call???
  2. We are in the process of developing a policy.....if you have one would you be so kind as to share it with me.....The prisoners we are dealing with are from a county jail.....they do range from drug dealers, users, sex offender, thiefs, armed robbery and even murders......I would really appreciate any help and you seem to be knowledgeable.......thanks so very much in advance for any help......angel03
  3. Need help to establish a policy re: prision guards in the OR.....can any one help me ???? Any info would be greatly appreciated.....Thanks so very much
  4. we have the clutter fairies they never put anything away they just use and leave a trail for the worker bees to clean up after...I know these fairies are in every work place
  5. I am a CNOR..... have been scrubbing alot lately only because I show an intrest and ask to all the time.......it is a definate asset to scrub makes a better circ.
  6. Is she going to McGee or Mercy?????Like I said both hospitals are good ...I think at Mercy the dept is small and the new moms get extra special attention....
  7. Did she have the baby yet ? Did all go well???Let us know .....Both hospitals are good....
  8. Our policy is no exposed clothing .......most people wear jackets and an Or gown if they are cold .....me I'm usually hot I can't sit still when circ...when scrubbed the OR lights are hot
  9. I think you need 2 pair of shoes so you can change off and on....I hve berkie's and love them they are very expensive.....I also have a pair of nurse mates style "angel"(of course)....I love them they fit they are ever so comfortable and not as heavy as the berkies....I don't have as many aches and pains now.......the nurse mates were about $45 the berkies were $105.... it is worth the money to me we spend too much time standing and hustling Try the nurse mates I got them from Zappos free shipping I really love them they are light weight and so very comfortable
  10. Our hospital is a level 1 and we have a night crew 1 RN 1 surg tech Sunday-Fri. overnight call team every night of the week ......2 teams on the weekends until 6:00pm then just the call team & a 2nd call call team from home on pager....it usually works well...or we are just accustomed to the routine.....
  11. I suppose every hospital is different depending on many factors.....We have CRNAs monitor techs interns and residents.....unfourtunately the RN staff does not administer blood, blood products or IV fluids.....WE check the products in write the verbal orders but we do not adminster them......This is solely the responsibility of anesthesia.......I do feel at times I have lost some skills..but this maintains control and continuity......If a patient is crashing and we need to help hang these produts we do.....(this has only happened to me 1 time in 20 years)....I take a lot of trauma call and am exposed to various situations....our anesthesia staff has adequate help usually....it is the our team that needs cloned or at least another set of arms........
  12. I agree with you.....an x-ray should always be taken before the wound is closed..... .....this has been addressed by our mananger......by the way a supervisor in the room when the surgeon insisted on closing.......hard lesson learned by all.....including the surgeon...thanks for your imput....
  13. We are starting to discuss how to cover certian busy services in our OR. Do you have call for specific services and not just a general call? Do you have dedicated staff to any services other than cardiac?
  14. I agree things happen......sometime no fault of the surgeon ....other times skill is just not up to par.....I agree to keep a journal......
  15. I believe when peritoneum is opened a count must be done.....I have scrubbed and circ. on neonates and our policy is to count...perhaps you can check with a childrens hospital to see what they do
