Looking for new Shoes...
I think you need 2 pair of shoes so you can change off and on....I hve berkie's and love them they are very expensive.....I also have a pair of nurse mates style "angel"(of course)....I love them they fit they are ever so comfortable and not as heavy as the berkies....I don't have as many aches and pains now.......the nurse mates were about $45 the berkies were $105.... it is worth the money to me we spend too much time standing and hustling Try the nurse mates I got them from Zappos free shipping I really love them they are light weight and so very comfortable

Weekend/Night OR crews...
Our hospital is a level 1 and we have a night crew 1 RN 1 surg tech Sunday-Fri. overnight call team every night of the week ......2 teams on the weekends until 6:00pm then just the call team & a 2nd call call team from home on pager....it usually works well...or we are just accustomed to the routine.....

Blood transfusions
I suppose every hospital is different depending on many factors.....We have CRNAs monitor techs interns and residents.....unfourtunately the RN staff does not administer blood, blood products or IV fluids.....WE check the products in write the verbal orders but we do not adminster them......This is solely the responsibility of anesthesia.......I do feel at times I have lost some skills..but this maintains control and continuity......If a patient is crashing and we need to help hang these produts we do.....(this has only happened to me 1 time in 20 years)....I take a lot of trauma call and am exposed to various situations....our anesthesia staff has adequate help usually....it is the our team that needs cloned or at least another set of arms........

Getting Started in OR Nursing
- question re: donors
I believe that this is what they are talking about in our hospital thanks for clearing that up ...I guess it has not gone nation wide......- question re: donors
I will check this thread out ...thanks for the info.....- question re: donors
thanks for checking it out...I will find out what this is called.....Really kind of scary...when I find the proper name I'll let you know perhaphs its just being done around here....but can't imagine this concept didn't start out your way....- How does an atheist deal with death?
How does an atheist deal with death?... I don't know....As I stated I feel there is a higher being.... God.... who guides us who gives us our talent even the atheist.....Again that is my belief....Something inside guides..... what ever you want to call it...I call "It" God......A dying person looks to you for compassion ...and you are able to give that compassion.....they look for answers and acceptance.....sometimes absolution......what do you think guides your practice.......(You must admit if you have been a nurse for awhile you have seen many strange occurances).......It is more than respecting the person and not using "pet names"....Not trying to convert you just telling you how I feel......I can't quote authors .....just my own feelings......how is this useful in answering the question??...I can't answer that....Only you can.....- question re: donors
Mike ...I have done "normal Organ donations" I 'm really not a fan of this but I respect what is involved and the persons right to donate....what I am talking about is not brain death...the patient is actually alive could be very aware of surrounding if on a vent anesthesia is only responsible until the vent is shut off.....they do not go into the OR with the body....the patients family will be allowed to accompany the patient untill the pt. passes.....I don't remember what my friend called this.. heart beating donor. ..or something like that.......just don't like that idea...it was just passed in our OR about 2 months ago went throu ethics ect....see what you can find out...again its not the brain death criteria these people are actually still alive....- question re: donors
We just had an inservice on donors that will be brought to the OR alive and taken off of life support...Please explain not sure I'm understanding...I was off the day of this inservice......any one done this or know more about this????? Not too sure I like what I am hearing from my peers- How does an atheist deal with death?
please excuse my spelling errors and grammer I should have checked before I posted...that is what happens when one has worked 16 hours..with no sleep....I did ask not to be stoned....I just feel that there is a higher being who guides us.... so if you wish to be so critical and angry so be it....My belief is my own I am not pushing it on you or any one else......I just know how I feel...and my practice reflects this....- How does an atheist deal with death?
I am not an oncology nurse or hospice nurse...but I have great respect for both.....I am an OR nurse somewhat detached from the patient and family...I was for many years on a medical unit...we had patients that (before DRG's) stayed for many many months......I learned much from these patients many of which were terminal....I watched may take their last breath...a common factor in many of these patient was faith...it was curious to see outreached hands to the sky....as if prasing some one... ..or a conservation with the pretty lady....no one else in the room but me.....or a peaceful face on a pain riddled body (many many years ago bone Ca pain was treated with tylenol#3 or percodan q6 hr imagine) I am not preaching but please don't feel uncomfortable with faith.....I have great faith which has brought me throu some very difficult times in my life.....I guess I am trying to say let you patients feel your compassion and faith in them no doubt you are awsome nurses....take it one step further...you were give your particular talent for a reason...please don't stone me...I just know their is a reason their is a God..........- to cpan rn's
I am not familiar with the initials cpan...please explain? - question re: donors
