How often are you called in during on call?
Hello- I had an interview for a OR nursing position that scrubs and circulates that went very well today. The thing is you are on call 5-6 night shifts (11:30-7) during the week every 4 weeks and 6-7 shifts (day or night) on the weekends every 8 weeks. I am exactly 30 minutes away from door to door and they did not seem concerned about that distance. I am concerned because I hate being late. So my question is, how often that you are on call are you actually called in??? Thanks so much for the info! Anything helps -kate

New Job before 1year of experience??
I feel like many that have posted before, staff nursing in a hospital setting is not for me. Although most other jobs require the 1-2 years of med/surg experience if not more. Has anyone quit their floor job for another area of nursing before getting a year of experience? If so, have you found that it has hurt you or held you back from other jobs? Do you regret not getting that experience? Thanks, I'm trying to hang in there but will only have 4 months experience at the end of January.

Taking the boards before working
Do you guys recommend taking time off to study for the boards before working as a graduate nurse? Or for those of you that started working first, did you have enough time to study and work? Thanks, Kate

Accelerated/Second Degree BSN Programs?
[i have been accepted in the second degree program at the University of Detroit Mercy, its a 12 month program (3 semesters). I talked with the people at U of M and they didn';t have much information this summer because they are just switching from a 20 month to a 12 month program. They seemed very unorganized, didn't even know where clinicals would be.
