MCC Registration

U.S.A. Michigan

Was I the only one who didn't realize that reigistration started at midnight instead of 6am like it used to? I dawned on me when I logged onto WebAdvisor at 5:30am and saw that the section I wanted for 1530 was already full! So much for all my careful planning...next time I'll pay more attention to the time at which the system actually comes online!:trout: Oh well, now instead of going Mondays and Tuesdays I'll be going Mondays and Fridays. I just don't like how the Friday (Lab) class is the first one we attend, and the theory classes don't start until the following Monday...seems like putting the cart before the horse.

Through whom are you ladies and gents getting your malpractice insurance? I haven't needed it before :) not sure where to look.

I haven't signed up yet, but I think I am going to join the National Student Nurses Association (www.nsna.org), and through them we can get malpractice ins for $29/yr provided by Nurses Service Organization (www.nso.com). It's $70 for a 2-yr membership to NSNA, and then the additional $29/yr for the malpractice ins (the coverage is supposed to be up to $6 million aggregate/$1 million each).

Joining the NSNA seems to have other perks too: discounts through Barnes & Noble, nursing magazine subscription discounts, ect. I'm hopefully going to have the money together to join by next month, since I start the program in August and it's a two year membership.

If anyone has any other sources of , please share, I like to evaluate all my options before making a commitment!;)

You can buy through the NSO without joining the NSNA. The cost is still $29.....That being said, talk to some nurses and see if they have malpractice insurance. I have found that a lot of RNs do not carry insurance. I covered myself for the first year of school, and let it lapse when it was time to renew. You can also get malpractice coverage through your insurance carrier....AAA for sure will cover you, and I believe State Farm does as well.

Hope you don't mind me just jumping in, but where are you guys in the program? I see that NBMOM is starting this fall too, but what about the rest of you? I too am starting this September. I have the B3 block. I wish I knew who was teaching, it is driving me crazy!!!! I am really hoping to get Dr Montpas. I had her for pharm, and yes she was hard, but I loved her style. I hear they won't post till just before the semester begins.

I have a question about the scopes? Do you have to already have one for 101? I have one already, but I want to get a new one, this one is years old! I got it when I graduated from EMT class in 95.

Anyhow, if any of you are already in and have any advice for us newbies, please share!

Hi Christine, I think you might go to a different MCC. The MCC we're referring to is Macomb Community College in Macomb County Michigan. I've never heard of a B3 block, and our courses are numbered 1510, 1520 ect. As for stethoscopes, I just received a Littmann Cardiology III as a gift and it's amazing. Good luck in your program!;)

Thank you! I guess I do have the wrong MCC, mine is Mott up in Flint. I noticed that there were 2 MCCs later after I had already posted this! Thank you again, and GL to you and your program too!

watch out for the scrubs when you order...they run small....i just got mine....i purposly went a size higher then my measurements and they are still snug.....i weigh all of 120 pounds....so that will give you some idea of what im saying....the material feels like a army tent....it is thick and dosent move with your body....it just hangs there.....my husband has a closet full of scrubs and these are not like any scrubs ive seen before....one other thing....have you guys checked out the macombnursing.org website....im going to start chatting there because its easier to chat with only macomb students...i look forward to going through this experience with you guys....by the way my real name is erika reich....cant wait!!!:monkeydance:

So what size did you order that was snug? I was going to order the small, according to their size chart, and I weigh a good 20 lbs more than you (I'm 5'5"). Actually I have a friend currently in the program and I was hoping her size smalls could be resold to me :)! She's more petite (short) than me, but not much smaller around.

im 5 ft 8 in and weigh 120....i ordered extra small pants and top but got the talls in the pants....i can barely shimmy the pants up over my hips but once i get them over they fit ok....and if you saw me youd say what hips lol?...i have no butt and no hips :) ....my hips are a 36 and acording to the measurments they should be fine....they even have elastic on half the band and i still had to yank it up....the shirt fits fine once i get it over my head lol....the whole seems way to small....all and all once i get them on they look good....i think the hip measurement is the biggest issue....and for anyone who is near 5ft 8 in i would get the talls...the order form says if you are OVER 5 8 but i am so glad i got them ...they come right to the floor...i looked at scrubs my friend got that wernt longs and i would of had 4 inch high waters :) my only other advice is dont forget you need a patch for all the shirts you order and the lab coat

i just went back and looked at the measurement chart and had forgot that my measurements for the shirt fell into the petite catorgory but i went with the xs instead....man im glad i did....i couldnt imagine trying to fit into what they said i should....

You mentioned before that the uniform material was thick, so can I assume that panty/bra color won't be an issue? I will be ordering my uniforms next week (have been saving up the ca$h!), and I want to make sure I don't have to go out and buy a bunch of white undies to avoid show-through...;)

whip out the red panties lol....no they will not be a problem....the material is thick ans also a darker blue color

The uniforms are sailor blue, no chance of undergarments showing through.

I wish that people would have a general consensus on what type of stethoscope to buy! I have heard get the top of the line and I have heard get the cheap one in case someone steals it or you lose it. I think I am going to get the lightweight Littman for starters. I think my Christmas tree is going to have lots of nursing gear under it this year :D!
