Just curious how many hours, days per week, responsibilities. Do you work as a group with other students or are you on your own? I can't wait to start the program! Thanks!

It really depends on what instructor you end up with. Some have been around longer than others and really know their stuff, and expect you to dive in and learn. Others are more laid back and you don't get as many hands on tasks or experiences. If you look at the school schedule you can see how many days you do clinicals and lectures. I had that all figured out well before I even applied to the program :). You don't usually work in groups, you get assigned a pt of your own. First semester responsibilities include full pt care. That could mean bed baths, bed pans, etc. if you pt requires it. It could mean foley insertion or removal. You may get to do wound care and mess with drains. You may get to suction a trach. It always includes passing meds! I didn't get to do much more than pass meds, the highlight was administering a sub-q injection and doing an orthostatic bp. I expect that the second semester will kick my butt!

Hello,
Where do you find out what days you have clinicals and lectures? i'm going to mott also. i've planned out my courses up until being accepted into clinicals. I would love to plan that out now too! I have no idea what to expect in terms of, what on earth do I do with my toddler while i'm at clinicals for 12 hours?
It's possible to only take 6-8-12 credits doing your prerequisites... do we have a choice in how many credits we take with clinicals or is it all (full time+) or you just dont go? Is it possible to retake a clinical if you dont do well in it, or is that just not possible? I'm planning on doing everything right, of course! I'm just wanting to make sure I understand.
I'm planning and thinking as far ahead as i can. I'm scared to pieces.
thanks for any info you can give me.
Sarah

I am not sure if you are referring to the same program, to me MCC stands for Macomb Community College :). I hope you have/find a good babysitter, I had to worry about putting my 4 yr old twins into daycare for three semesters of my program until they began kindergarten. I found affordable lady in my neighborhood that watches kids to keep them when I was in school (then my husband was layed off and he watched them for a whole semester). Our clinical days were only 8 hrs.
oh! Macomb Community, okay I will make sure I look for the clarification from now on. Hopefully i can find a good private baby sitter. 8 hours is better than 12. Glad you've done so well. My daughters father's shop is closing, just dont know when, chances are, he'll be out of work when I start clinicals.
