MBA in Health Care Management and Nursing

Can a nurse use a graduate degree in Health Care Management? Are there any nurses out there that have a MBA in Health Care Management?

I met a RN who got her masters in gerontological nursing and then decided to get her masters in Health Services Adminstration. What was really interesting was that she told me that you didn't need an undergrad degree as a nurse in order to get a masters in Health Services Admin.

This is because a Masters in Health Services and a MBA in Health Care anything are Business degrees and have nothing to do with nursing. On the other hand, nurses can use such degrees to work as administrators to include directing nurses and Nursing Services. Non-nurses do not have the same opportunities, which is why so many like myself on this board are now working to have RN behind our names.

Thank you for the replies. I am waiting to get into an RN program and decided to pursue an MBA in Health care management while I was waiting. I was wondering what doors that would open for me once I am done. Even though it will take 3 years, I'm hoping it will be worth it.

In my area, the combo MSN/MBA degree is very popular.
