Hi everyone! I wanted to start a thread to learn more about others who are applying for the program. I've read posts from past cohorts and thought it would be a great way for us to meet each other. I can't wait to hear from you all! ?

Did anyone put anything for the “anything else we should know” I wasn’t sure for that section.

I just put why I preferred one department over the other. my essay kind of explains it as well.

I explained why I wanted my first 3 choices in the comments section. Basically I just said that my plan was to go on and become a nurse in those units and I enjoyed the patient population and dynamic of those units. Don't know if it'll do anything or not, just thought I'd give it a shot LOL.

Random question. So for all of you who filled out the sub specialities, how did you go about ranking specialties you have never been in?

do you mean like how did we rank specialties that we don't have any experience in?

Yeah!

Yeah!

So I only ranked specialties that I either had experience in and like or if I found a speciality on that description list that I found interesting. For example, I have a really huge passion for ICU and I love those settings so I ranked most specialties in that section minus the pediatric specialties (not a peds guy). For the ones that I haven't had any experience in, I only ranked it if it sounded appealing from the description. I actually chose a unit for my second choice that I have no experience in (med/surg transplant ICU) just because it sounded super interesting on the description sheet. But I also didn't rank any in psych, and only 1 in like 2 of the categories. That may be detrimental for me getting a spot (IDK) but I filled it out based purely on interest. Hope that helps!

I did! I ranked based on the descriptions they gave us and personal interest. ?

The inpatient general care was most difficult to rank because many of the subspecialties would just be on a general med surg floor at my local hospital.

I felt the same way! That was my most difficult section to rank as well. I think I ranked inpatient general care 4th overall. Honestly, after my first, second and third overall area rankings I kind of didn't take it as seriously but still made sure I put units that I would be OK working on. I'm really really hoping to get one of the ICU units though, because I'm pretty lost anywhere else honestly haha.

@nocostudentnurse rlly hope you're able to get something in the ICU!

next week's the week though!! wonder if decisions are going to come right on Monday or a couple days after haha

also, happy lunar new year to those who celebrate it! <33
