Hi Jeremy-
I can't speak to your first question but I can to the second. Admissions is very tight lipped about past candidates' test scores and GPAs which is frustrating! But you can gather a lot from this website. I would stalk peoples scores and grades and them watch to see if they got in or not! LOL. I had a 3.7 and am 88% and got in, if that helps.
As for courses, along with all the pre reqs, try to take all the RN co reqs as well, so you don't have to do them while in the program. It takes a weight off once you are in!
Good luck!
You must have great critical thinking ... this is what they are looking for when they test you prior to getting into the program. This is why a lot of people are not able to get in. Yes your GPA and TEAS score are both important but a good GPA alone will not get you in. Good Luck to you! :)
I am in the Nursing program at PHCC. They look at Prerequisite GPA and TEAS score along with county of residency only, it is based on everyone else that is applying at the same time so there isn't a set minimum GPA or TEAS. (you can find previous post re this program on this site as well) I would also suggest that you take the program corequisties ahead of time as the program is stressful enough without extra courses. Especially take Microbiology as soon as you can.
Critical thinking is important in Nursing School but they don't test you on that ahead of time.
Thanks guys this helps me too. I am also going to apply for the fall program and have just started my prerequisites. I am currently taking micro apps and nutrition. I am going to try and take the second half of the semester and take psychology also. So I can focus on ap and the lab by itself. any suggestions for first timers...anything I should focus on. Is it a good idea to just focus on AP by itself?

Hi!
I just moved to Florida and have applied to attend PHCC at their North Campus. I plan on applying to the generic RN track when I get my pre-reqs out of the way, but I have a few questions and concerns that haven't been addressed clearly.
First is credit transfer. I moved down here in the middle of a college semester (I didn't have a choice because I'm still living with my parents and didn't have enough financial aid to move on campus for the remainder of the semester) so now I have A LOT of W's on my transcript. They told me that I have to have passed at least 67% of all attempted hours to qualify for financial aid. I've only passed 52% of attempted hours. Do I have to transfer my credits? One man has told me no while another has told me yes. I'm not worried about retaking any classes because most of them aren't even required at PHCC so it's no loss at all. (Keep in mind I know that I won't qualify for in-state financial aid. I've lived here for a month, so I'm not a Florida resident yet.)
My second concern is with the RN program itself. The only information staff will share with me is a list of pre-reqs. They haven't told me anything about test scores and minimum GPA. I'm going to work my butt off regardless, so the minimum GPA doesn't really matter, but what about test scores? What do I need to aim for? I'd like to set a goal for myself. I'm thinking that, since I've heard it's competitive, I should shoot for an 89% TEAS or higher? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I have an advising appointment on Monday, so I guess I'll learn more then. I just want to see what other students think.
Thanks, Jeremy.
P.S. I won't be able to apply for the nursing program until Fall 2012, so I'm probably getting ahead of myself. What are your suggested courses of action? What classes should I take first? Any extra classes outside of pre-reqs?
