I am a nurse from Ukraine living in US(Michigan) After reveiwing my papers CGFNS said I didn't have enough hours on maternal/infant and phychiatric nursing. Where can I take those two classes in Detroit area? Please, who had the same problem HELP!!!!!!!!!!! I can't find any place that will allow to take only two classes :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire

You would be just taking up a slot that is vacant, not taking a place away from someone else. There are always students that have to drop for some reason or another the first week of class and then that slot is open for a student. If they are considering you it will be quite some time, due to waiting lists before you would get a slot, but as a fill-in just for a class or two; you have a much better shot of getting that class.

It has nothing to do with the money, but just you needing the two classes.

Soemtimes you just need to think outside the box.

I sertainly will try to go to those colleges again next week with that guest student thing, maybe they will put me on their waiting lists.

Over the time I have been trying to get my license in US, I see a lot of things that pussle me. We hear all the time and everywhere there are not enough nurses in US, we need nurses.

Well, all nursing programs are packed as I can tell. You still need nurses?

Being a foreign nurse with 7 years of experience and no emmigration problems I never noticed any kind of interest in me or any desire to help or any knowledge. Except in Schoolcraft college. God Bless that lady :) And trust me, I have talked to a lot of people in colleges, universities as well as hospitals.Foreign nurses have to realy '"invent a bike' in order to get their lisences here. Why it is that way? Or maybe I just live in a wrong state? :)

The problem arises with the hours in your program. Anyone else without an acceptable number has to make up the classes, such as nurses from the UK as well as Australia. And even some from India. Just depends on what was in your program, or not in it.

The US, as well as Canada, have very specific requirements, they want a "generalist" not a "specialist" when it comes to sitting for boards. There are ways around this.............just sit tight.

Are you willing to travel to complete the hours? Or are you limited to staying near your home?

Hi Suzanne,

Unfortunately I am limited to staying here because of my husband.

Right now I am also thinking of applying for CA lisence maybe that will be successful? Maybe they will like my hours? :chuckle Also I have an option to go to BSN for 3yrs program to Detroit Mercy University. All in all this program will take actually 4 years with pre-requesites.LOOONG time.... :p What do you think about this options?

Thank you very much for your time! For a lot of people here you are A BIG HELP!

California will require the same hours for licensure.................

Also the biggest thing to be aware of is that MI, as well as Illinois require CGFNS exam for foreign trained nurses...........there is no way around that unless you have at least five years of work experience as an RN in the US for Michigan. So you are back to the same spot.

There is a new program in Arizona where you may be able to get both subjects done in just a few months.............

There is absloutely no reason whatsoever to go back and redo an entire program for just two classes..................

Tomorrow I am going to Schoolcraft college and next week to Oakland Community college and Wayne Community College to see if they will put me on their waiting lists. With whom you think,Suzanne, I should talk to?Nursing director,Dean of Nursing Department?

The Dean, if at all possible. Just explain your position............ :)
