Hi, I am a new grad. with a passion to work in labor and delivery, and after 4 months of applying with several hospitals, and other organizations I finally have been offered a position in a long term nursing facility. I have accepted the position and am eager to gain some nursing experience. My ultimate goal though is labor and delivery. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me reach my goal? i.e. How long should I plan on working in long term? Should I join any specialty organizations? Really any suggestions would help. Thank you

My first job, a long long time, ago was in a nursing home. But I have been in Labor and Delivery/Mother Baby care for almost 20 years now. This is where I belong. Two organizations that I highly recommend are Lamaze and AWHONN. Both are kinda expensive but they are excellent in keeping you up to date with OB issues. Also, network with any OB organization or individual you come across.
Good luck..Never stop following your goals. You can do it.
Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into those organizations.

Definitely AWHONN. If you attend meetings and conventions you can network and it may help you find employment.
