hello, cdnrn97,:balloons:
welcome to allnurses.com. it is great to have you with us.
i believe you should get the msn, if you do want to advance in nursing. you can choose from many tracks: educator, np, cns, nurse administrator, nursing informatics, forensic nursing, nursing leadership.......just to name a few.
i continued and am very happy with my choice, ob-gyn np and fnp.
now i realize this just my opinion. i wanted to let you know that it worked for me.
Hi, I am just about done with my MSN; I am finishing up my thesis.
I find a MSN well worth the investment and has helped me move from the role of staff RN in Labor and Delivery to a Patient Education Specialist. My responsibilities include managing all of the patient education efforts for a 2-hospital large healthcare system. My role is very autonomous, which I love, and challenging because currently there is no patient education program in place at this facility; my role is to create one!
My MSN allowed me to gain the knowledge and experience to obtain this position.

I would like to get my master in biology or specialize keeping with one area I like and feel comfortable with. Yes a master would be helpful, for me anyway. I always thought working for the CDC or some other area of infection control would be very interesting and challenging. I think after some time in nursing, because it is so broad, finding something I really like and being to grasp it on a daily basis, would bring a sense accomplishment. The question is do you want to narrow your field down to a specialty or do you want to broanden it? Once you have determined this it will be obivious whether or not you will need another degree and if so, what type.
