Does any-one work in a hospital that employs a massage therapist? OR has anyone seen an independently employed massage therapist come into their hospital to see patients? thanks.

Hi, in Melbourne, Swinbourne University Hospital (now defunct) attempted to integrate holistic "alternative" therapies along mainstream medical/nursing care, and I believe they had massage therapists. However, I know little else about the hospital. You may be able to find an old website regarding the hospital.

There is a school of natural therapy here in Brisbane but I have never seen massage threpists inside a hospital - but then most of my experience is in public hospitals. We do. however have volunteers who come around the hospital and give wonderful foot massages to patients (darn!!! They won't give them to the nurses no matter how much we plead:rotfl: )

We have them in the nursing home I work at, though it's up to the family to pay for the massage therapist. Some residents have benefited from this, it realy depends on the resident, for some its reduced their pain levels.

There's a hospital near me (in in the New England area) that employs RNs who are also licensed massage therapists. I'm also aware of plenty of hospitals that have employed massage therapists who aren't RNs. It is commonly required that these massage therapists also be certified in Neuromuscular Therapy 'NMT' to work in a clinical setting.
