Masks and blood cultures

Does anyone work at a hospital that requires them to wear masks while drawing blood cultures?

No from me, but I've never considered doing it so now I'm very interested in hearing everyone's responses and the reasoning behind a "yes".

Back when I did them we just had to swab the tops of the culture bottles with alcohol wipes. I think if the answer was yes then the hospital is looking for sterile more than reasonably clean...but if that's the case would one not sterile gown and glove as well?

We have to. Not sure if the point if it but it’s our policy to do so.
