Check with your organizations policy or practice guideline. Not sure if it is there but the Infusion Nurses Society document could have something.  Usually an MD or APP removes the PICC line.

Also when I look at videos on you tube about picc lime removal procedure, in most of the videos patient and nurse is not wearing mask..

You always want to follow your organizations guidelines as those are what guide practice where you work.  Videos on YouTube are great supplemental resources, however you will always be held to the practiceat the level of your license as well as what your organizations outlines.

As previously stated, you should refer to your organization's policy and procedures for PICC line removal. For example, at my facility PICC line removal is treated as a sterile dressing change and we are required to wear a mask and sterile gloves during the removal process.

Thanks for all of your reply..I checked with management..They stated..it's best practice to have yourself and patient wear mask during that procedure. If patient refuses to wear mask .Have them turn their face away while removing PICC line..

We do not use a mask. With the CHG dressings, the insertion site can stay protected up until the last minute where I place a 2x2 gauze with Neosporin on it s I pull it out. I do have the pt breathe out with their head turned to the side away from the arm where PICC is. Where I am, it is a nursing task. We can remove likes that are not sutured in (I.e IJ; we can pull EJ)

Thank you..Makes me feel better..I remove one today and didn't use mask.
