Marymount University (northern va)

Has anyone attended Marymount's BSN program in Arlington VA? I am thinking of applying for their 2nd degree accelerated RN program and was hoping someone could give me some insight. I know they are expensive, however NVCC and George Mason seem to have 2 year waiting lists to get in. Any other suggestions???

I'm not sure about Marymount. I haven't really heard anything. I do know they are the only school though who's deadline hasn't passed yet for fall admissions. I'm going to cross my fingers and apply there. I don't want to wait for another full year before I can apply.

yes, it is very expensive.... and for the money i didn't feel it was a "great" program... does it serve its purpose??? yes... can you get a job after graduation??? yes... but i wasn't impressed with the level of education... it didn't seem as challenging as i expected nursing school to be... i wish i would have waited for gmu they seem better prepared... and i wouldn't be so far in debt!!!

hello, I saw your message and actually I just got accepted into the program for this coming fall semester. i am hoping and praying that the program is legit because other programs that i viewed required too much even with a degree other than nursing. I am not from the northern va area and I wanted to know the in's and out's of the vicinity, the best place to live...etc. hopefully we can keep in touch. I will keep you inform of my journey there. everyone must develop there own opinion. good luck.. and i hope that you get into the school of your choice.

don't worry, the program is definately legit... just not terribly challenging. You will learn basically what you need to know to pass the boards (which only test to the MINIMUM standards for safe practice). i graduated from Marymount in 1998 and got a job immediately. I don't know what part of the country you live in now, but this is an EXTREMELY expensive area. The nicest areas to live in are Centreville (Sully Station, esp), Chantilly and out in Loudon county... but expect to pay over $1000/month for a 1 bedroom apt in any of those places... and the traffic is HORRENDOUS... but i'm a native and i wouldn't live anywhere else!! lol

I'm there now and I love it! I'm an older second degree student (I have a BA and several professional certifications in my previous field) with very high expectations of any academic setting that I'm in.

There may have been some changes to the Marymount program in the last couple of years. In my research of nursing schools, I spoke with hospitals that I hope to work in. They all had high opnions of the nurses that come out of Marymount.

As a current student, I have found my professors to be knowledgeable and inspiring. So far, all of my profs are still in the field and very dedicated to the profession.

As for the cost- I don't think that it's that bad...but then again, in agreement with the above poster, everything is expensive here. Even the local community college costs a few thousand. At Marymount, my class sizes are small, resources (like lab time) are available, and professors accessible. I feel very supported here, and to me, that's priceless.

It's my second semester at Marymount. What can I say... Very small university. There are some great professors, but there are also a whole lot of bad ones. The problem is that at such a small university - there are no options; so you are basically stuck with the only professor for that teaches the particular subject. I was accepted to Trinity, Catholic, and Marymount. I selected Marymount but I am honestly starting to regret it. For such a small campus, they need to be way better organized.

I'm currently in my third semester at marymount and while I don't have any experience at other schools, I would say to stay away from marymount. I really regret coming here.

The teachers are terrible, the administrators are unorganized and it is expensive. They just raised the tuition to $14,000 a semester. The ABSN program is 4 semesters so it's easy to see how much it'll cost.

I feel like the students are constantly being treated like children and the teachers and administrators act like they're doing you a favor when they're really just doing their jobs.
