Maryland to RI career change

Published

Specializes in ortho, soft tissue, trauma.

Hey everyone--I am thinking seriously about moving to Rhode Island sometime in 2008.

I haven't done much research other than hospital websites.

My background is less than 2 years at Shock Trauma in Baltimore; I am probably going to try to stay in something close to what I do now--ortho, soft tissue, etc. altho change is good!

My questions to anyone who is willing to answer:

1) Any opinions on what hospitals are "good"

2) which ones are good to stear away from

3) How do the unions work (we don't have any here)

4) any advice for this whole idea of mine

Thanks in advance if anyone replies!! I have a very close friend who lives in Jamestown that I visit often, thats how I fell in love with the area. That and...Baltimore is just making me tired!!! Time for a switch me thinks...

it matter what type of hospital you are lookinbg for. magnet status- miriam & newport.... level 1 trauma busiest in the state- ri hosp..... small community hospital- kent there are a few I would stay away from. lifespan & care new england (except kent- but they will be soon) are in the process of merging together and they are the best places to work. If you are looking for $ then per diem at Landmark is where to go. they are the highest per diem. Have not worked for the union personally but everybody I know who has loves it. and the hosp to steer away from.... you will know when you go on an interview..... every hospital has their good and bad points it is just your matter of opinion
