Market for nurse practitioners in the DFW area

Specialties NP

Hello out there! I'm a current CVICU RN, and I've been giving some thought into going back to school for my nurse practitioner's license in a few years. For anyone who knows, how's the climate and job availability for nurse practitioners in Dallas/Fort Worth (especially acute care NPs)? I'd dearly appreciate any details, thank you so much!

I have no idea about Acute but Family NPs are in demand. I would say 75% of my classmates had jobs when we graduated. I'll ask around for you. Where are you planning to go to school?

UTA, I was thinking. And that is ridiculously generous of you, thank you so much!

Specializes in ICU, ER, HH, NICU, now FNP.

The job market is great for FNP's, fewer openings for others. And the demand is increasing. I get about 2 calls a week from desperate recruiters. Salaries have gone up significantly just in the 5 years or so I have been around. Anybody who thinks an NP only makes a little more than an RN is no longer correct.

Nowhere to go but up! I wouldn't have it any other way! It was SOOOO worth it!

Specializes in trauma ICU,TNCC, NRP, PALS, ACLS.

That 's good to hear because I will be starting my FNP program in the fall. It took me a while to decided b/e I was very afraid of not finding a job.

Specializes in med/surg, new FNP.

I wish it was like that in Arkansas, I have been looking for 5 months now.
