Maricopa Skill Center

U.S.A. Arizona

Are there any current Maricopa Skill Center LPN students out there? I think that that is the route that I am going to take to get me on the path to becoming a RN, but I have a few questions. How hard is the program?

What is the schedule like? Pretty much anything anybody can tell me about it.

Thanks!

The guy who works at MSC said he was going to put the names of some more agencies on the website so keep checking there (maricopaskillcenter.com) But you can google Friendly House & get their info- They never answered their phones for me so I just showed up there & got the info. They are state funded for impoverished people (but you only have to make less than $25/hr to get the funding)- its credited up front & there is no contract with anyone except that they call you like once a month to check on you & see how schools going..

Does anyone know what the schedule is like for this program? And its only 1 year for the LPN?

The website says the program is 13 months long and class hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8am-1:30pm with one 10 hour clinical day that is on Fri., Sat., or Sun. I am not sure how current that information is though. I haven't been to the information session yet.

When I spoke recently with someone there, they said it would be 5 days a week from 8am-4pm. Then, when clinicals start (after 14 weeks) it will go to 4 days a week in class then one day in clinicals. They never told me it would be Sat or Sun. Maybe that's a new thing. My friend that went there said clinicals used to be on Fridays. It's really hard to get a straight answer form someone!

Yes, that website info IS outdated! Im calling right now to see what the new hours are for sure!

Ok, they said the info they have, is 8am-3pm with every other Fri. off. Clinicals to be on Fridays. They said they will have someone in "student services" contact me to verify. I doubt that will happen so I will call back tomorrow.

Hi Guys,

From what i've read on this forum, the LPN program sounds pretty good. But i wanted to ask, does anyone know how hard it is to get a job as an LPN in the hospitals in AZ ? Where do most LPN's work ? How much less would LPN's make compared to RN's ? What schools offer LPN to BSN programs and how long would it take to get the BSN ?

Could you give more info about this friendly house? Do you have 2 go to a certain school to get the 4K?

Thanks for letting me know, that certainly makes a huge change in my plans. Please let me know whatever else you find out. Thanks!

I haven't really done much research on Lpn's because I am heading towards being a RN, but from what I have hear there aren't many jobs for LPNs in hospitals. For instance I work for Banner and there are currently only 4 positions posted, as compared to a zillion RN positions. I have heard that a lot of LPNs work in long term care facilities, and I am not sure where else. I have also heard the pay is significantly higher when you work in long term care as well. The highest I've heard was $26/hr. The range Banner has posted is $17.06-27.26. The range for Rns is $25.47-40.69. The only program that I have heard of so far that offers LPN to BSN is Univ. of Phoenix, and I think that is supposed to take 2 years to complete.
