Maricopa Community College CEP (Applicants for Dec 2, 2019 - Jan 31,2020)

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello all I decided to post really early just to get an idea of who would possibly be submitting their CEP application this Dec-Jan of next year. I was thinking of applying to mesa community college with ASU but i also would rather choose a school I know i would have a great chance getting into. The closer the times comes the more nervous I am. Really hoping to get into CEP who is with me?

When calculating my points depending on the grade i receive in Bio205 if i get an A i would have 82.16 if i get an B 80.76. I have heard that the closer to 80 the harder it is i was hoping to be closer to 85 i likely will retake me HESI to get a higher percentage for the English portion (i got a 85.33 in english and 94 in math). The C i got in Eng102 is killing my GPA. ) But enough complaining hoping to get some insight from others and how they feel about this upcoming round.

Specializes in Neuro.

I'm already a graduate from GCC & an ASU alum(for my first non-nursing degree). I went with Ottawa for my CEP & can not say enough good things...including the lower price & graduating same semester with my ADN & BSN.

All the universities are good really, both the in & out of state universities are all reputable. So just what works best for you. I wouldn't recommend university of Phx though if they are still around the CEP options, nothing against their program, just $, yikes!

How do you calculate your points? I got a C in ENG102 and I'm considering retaking it! I haven't taken the HESI yet though.

I was going to go with ottawa honestly but decided not to because i could not finish my hcr240 in time. i may end up applying this round and if i do not get in i will be taking hcr240 in spring to apply with ottawa.

My godmother went to mcc/asu for her cep and loved it. she talked me into asu because she was told in clinicals they look for schools such as asu, nau and u of a (state schools) i did like that ottawa was cheaper though. plus i have voiced me wanting to apply to both schools.

ottawa has contacted me throughout this semester to check on my status and questions while asu was more treating me as any other number.

It is kind of hard to do without the HESI scores as that is important.

You take your GPA for the courses with a star next to them. Multiply by 10

So if you have a 3.60 x 10 = 35

Take the HESI score the math score multiply by 0.15

So if you get a 90 x .15= 13.5

And the accumulative English score multiply by 0.35

So if you get an 90 x .35 =31.5

If you have a degree : points are given (this round they actually chanced the points depending on degree so I'm not sure how that will play out with my calculation) ... And they will take away 10 points if you failed a previous nursing program.

This will be my first round of trying to get in anyone have luck with getting in the first round? any idea what schools have the least amount of applicants? I was told for ASN alone i would not get into the program until spring or fall 2021 and that broke my heart really hoping to get into CEP who is with me?

I will be applying for the upcoming CEP program in dec. I calculated my points and I’m sitting at the low 80’s. Idk if it’s going to be good enough. I submitted my application in August and currently in the waitlist. I am wanting to apply to MCC through ASU it GCU.

Are we able to apply to two universities or just one?

Also do you know what clinical hours are going to be once we get in?

I feel like I’ve been waiting so long for this to actually happening but yet still so far away.

I'm not sure on clinical hours it does vary per semsester from what I was told just be open to all times. I doubt any will be night shift though.

They took the application down to change it but as far as last app was only one university and 2 community college choices. I'm doing ASU with Mesa and unsure on the other. I have heard the inner city schools have less applicants usually (gateway and phx) mcc and gcc are always the most competitive but other schools have less seats. I feel the same way it's takingforever and still wont know until March if we get in!

Yeah I heard that also. My application is originally set for a seat at GCC but I will be changing it to MCC hopefully within the next several weeks. I went to the nursing info sessions for MCC this past Tuesday and one of the advisors told us they accept 84 students for the nursing programs. Hopefully we will be one of them. I don’t plan on retaking the hesi exam. I’ve already taken it twice. Idk how I feel about the 3rd time around.... I was really discouraged about my vocabulary score since I studied over 400 words and out of those probably only 10 were on the exam. Well good luck in dec and then the guess come feb of next year the countdown will begin. Would be awesome if we get accepted and start at the same time.

Thanks Ottawa was my first Choice but with the point system I have a better shot with asu or fpu. These are my 3 options asu price is scary but I have the highest points with them. I just dont want to end up in too muchdebt but also get a job. Fpu is 7500 right now for the bsn portion which is insane I'mreally considering it just need to know If I can get a job and transfer my credits for nurse practitioner

I agree hope this round people sit out

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Estrella or Glendale Community CEP is more competitive. I live right between both and want to know where I should submit. Can you submit to various community colleges and only one university? Also has anyone had issues with the nursing academic advisors at GCC? I have found them to be rude, discouraging, and was told I "can't" apply to CEP or waitlist program, when I have to retake one class to get 80 points. (In the process and will retake another if I get rejected this round).

Lots of questions any response would be helpful, Thanks!

Estrella has the least amount of seats out of them all but gcc is also highly sought out from what I remember when i lived on west side of town. I turned my ADN application in at gcc and the advisor i had was super nice he answered all my questions so I think maybe it is the advisor you had. You can apply to cep if you meet requirements. Retaking a class for a higher grade doesnt hurt maybe that is what he/she meant.

It's getting closer I finish my last class nov 25th but retaking eng 102 for an A .
