Hi!
I am seriously considering joing the ANC. I have a BSN, am working on my MSN and work in the ER nearby full-time. I just figured ou how to post so if this looks like deja-vu sorry.
Anyway, any questions I should be sure to ask the recruiter? Also, how long is OBLC? I have seen 2 weeks on the goarmy.com webpage and here in this forum it looks anywhere from 3 to 10 weeks. Gotta plan for this ya know...... kids that need to be situated......etc.........
Do, you suppose it would be a good idea to have my boyfriend (a Major in the army reserves0 go with me to the recruiter?
I want to go in January to OBLC.......... not too hot down there in Texas then.... oh and lastly, what is the correct form for an army situp...... I don't think I can do one without someone holding my footsies.
thanks in advance

Hi RRMo7,
Are you considering Active or Reserve duty? Your OBLC will vary depending on that. Reserve is 3.5 weeks, Active is 8-9 weeks I believe.
If you are sending a packet for Reserve, you can expect a 3 to 4 month processing time, i.e...........The "timeline" for application submission, then acceptance, then commission and finally the 30-60 day wait for "orders" is lengthy.
I submitted a packet on Feb 20th, comissioned April 22 and recieved orders June 20th. I am going to OBLC in October. My packet had some waivers, but it was still a pretty fast turn around. I could have gone to August OBLC, but I was lacking my labs (they didn't draw them at my physical).
On the "active side of the house" your timeline will probably be quicker...... don't know.
Yeah, take your S.O. to speak with the recruiter---it can't hurt.....
Good Luck,

Great situation :) I only know a few answers.
I "Believe" Reserve OBC is 3.5 weeks and Active is 10 weeks.
I would take your significant other as he can at least listen and help you talk about options later - or ask questions that may help. You want to deal with a Healthcare recruiter - not the standard recruiter.. You will deal with a medical officer - whom is on recruiting duty as a healthcare recruiter. Contact local recruiter (or use the goarmy website) to find the nearest healthcare recruiter. Trade info via phone and establish a meeting time in the future. Your boyfriend can give you the scoop on the PT test.. but yes your feet are held while you do the situp.

Older,
Active was similar, although I have been waiting for a year. Keep in mind that holidays will slow down your packet and from what I have been told, the ANC board only meets once a month.
Edie,
I would recommend writing down all of your questions so that you can address them when you first meet with the recruiter. You can try going up to the local recruiter and they can give you the name of your healthcare recruiter (that's how I did it).
Yes, someone will be holding your feet. Your SO should be able to provide you with the PT test requirements, but you can always google the information. When I met with my recruiter today he demonstrated and it was pretty much how I thought it would be. The hardest part that I have is keeping my hands behind my head. Also, if you want your SO to go with you, as you might feel comfortable, then go ahead. It is really up to you on who you include.
Yup, you can also find the army pt stuff...everywhere~.. here is a link i just googled to find the 'situp' demonstrated on youtube from an army 'master fitness' badge wearing hooah...
