Manoa Spring 2010 Admissions

Published

I have already submitted in my application for the Spring 2010 Nursing program at Manoa and I was wondering what my chances are of getting in. Both my pre-req and cumulative GPA is a 3.4, I scored a 128 on my NLN giving me a 90% percentile score in the all column, and as for the NET I got a 84%.

Can someone tell me when Manoa is supposed to send out their acceptance letters for Spring 2010 admission? I am on the alternate list at Kapiolani Comm Coll which I thought meant nothing but someone told me at least 6-7 students a semester get accepted at both KCC and UHM and they usually choose UHM. So, if enough people get accepted at both then I may have a chance to get accepted at KCC if they decline. Anyone got their letters from UH yet? KCC's came out last week.

I read that UHM no longer has the ADN to BSN program anymore. Anyone know if that will be reevaluated?

Anyone have their CNA? It's my plan B for now since I didn't get accepted (so far) for KCC. Get my CNA in December and work until Fall 2010 admission. Sounds like a lovely plan but I guess I have to start somewhere.

When you guys get your letters from Manoa, can you please post something on here ASAP. I did a last minute move so my old address is on the application. It would save me gas, going everyday to just check if I had gotten a letter from the nursing department.

Thanks!

Dear o0: Have you called Manoa? Would a phone call answer your question? I hope you find your answer. :loveya:

Also, I'm curious... when I see your name o0tee0o I get this picture in my head.

It's the view of a car, from the side.

o o are the tires

0 0 is the frame

tee is someone sitting inside the car

Or, if I were to draw an outline around the entire word, it would look like a sportscar. Was that your intention? -- Lisa ;-)

Can't you have your mail forwarded? I sympathize, it is a long wait. I got my acceptance letter a month before the health clearances were due. I had to scramble, especially since the first people to get in their health clearances get to choose their clinical sites. I didn't really get to choose because I turned mine in at the last minute, but I enjoyed my clinical sites and instructor nonetheless. Good luck! :redpinkhe

From what I've heard from a few students who are also awaiting their letters, they said that the letters will be given out on the 16th of this month. I hope this helps!

Thanks everyone!

And "Lisa from Maui"... you have a good imagination.

Hi everyone, I just found this thread. I got my acceptance letter from Manoa on 11/18. I think they sent them out on on Monday.

For those of you already BSN students, could you enlighten me as to the realities of the program? How many days a week are you in class/clinicals? Are you able to sit for the LPN boards after the first year, like KCC's program? How are the instructors?

Thanks so much in advance!

Specializes in LTC & Med-Surg, L&D, Pre-Op Clinic.

Classes are okay...not too bad of a first semester

NURS 300-we only met 2 times, basic intro to nursing

NURS 310- Easy class-Basic communication skills, 2 quizzes, 2 papers, 1 oral presentation & final

NURS 330- Lots of reading, lecture 1 x a week, quiz weekly, 2 exams & final

NURS 330L- 2 days a week, 1 day of dry lab (practice) ; one day clinical- 5 write ups, no care plans, final exam

All instructors seem like they want you to achieve, I haven't any problems

I do not think you will be able to take the LPN boards after semester 2, but I may be wrong! Good luck to you all, and start gathering information for your health clearances....records of all MMR, Hep B, TB, ect....the faster you have all your requirements met, the faster you can register. If you don't have records, check into getting your titers drawn, they can take a while to get back...but make sure you follow directions in your admission packet, and don't start your TB too early. Completing CPR ----LCC has the one you (Healthsavers) need for a good rate, check with their Distance Education department ( I think ??) In the portable "trailer" at the very end of the campus.

Good Luck to you all!

hey guys! I'm new here. I got a letter from uh saying that I'm on the alternate list for spring 2010. Any thoughts on that?

Mahalo, Frow! I appreciate you breaking it down...

Anyone have an opinion about the choice of first semester clinical sites?

Mahalo to all the fall 2009 students for their advice! I'm starting to get a bit nervous since I've heard the program is killer. Is there really an essay due at orientation? How was everyone's first semester? I know it's finals time so any advice would be greatly appreciated. :loveya:

One last thing...I've heard rumors that the students are required to perform physical exams on eachother. Any truth to this rumor??

Halawa is awesome. The parking is terrible at Queens. Other than that, the sites and people are all pleasant.... the staff are anyway. Sometimes you will get not-so-pleasant patients.
