Do you carry your own malpractice insurance even if covered by your employer? Any recommendations for companies? Right now I am looking at NSO and Mercer Proliability who partners with organizations I am a member of. Thanks!

I am a FNP with NSO coverage & I plan to change my coverage to adult NP since I work in Addiction treatment & I may return to geriatrics. I plan NOT to see pediatrics. My question, to the Adult NPs, is what is the age range you can legally see?16, 18 ,21 year olds for the youngest???? Is the age range different in different states? I practice in NY state- so what is the youngest age you can see? I have searched the NY board of nursing website and can't seem to find any specific information.
I am also a member of AANP & I see there is a discount with their Liability Insurance--is that a 1 year discount or a continuing discount?
Thanks for the help.

Absolutely yes. I go through NSO. Haven't had to use them yet(knock on wood), but no issues. I would never depend on your employer to back you if things go bad. Sorry, also didn't realize this was in the NP forum...I'm an RN.
