So I was talking with a group of colleagues at my per diem job and I was very shocked to find that out of the group, 3 NPs did not have their own malpractice policy. Instead they are relying only on the hospital's coverage. How common is this amongst NPs?
Basically, I'm writing this post to urge everyone to buy their own policies, with a minimum value of $1,000,000/$3,000,000. I'm sure none of us I'd looking to commit malpractice, but remember that if something does happen and the hospital find that you did not follow institutional policy, you'll likely be dropped like a hot potato ðŸ .
I was just so shocked at the complacency of my colleagues on this matter I just wanted to admonish others against this.
Cheers

Once I earned my RN and started working in the hospital, I purchased my own liability/malpractice coverage. The hospital could easily throw you under the bus and then you're S.O.L. and on your own defending a law suit. Not that I anticipate needing to use the coverage, but it does make me feel better that I'm covered by both the hospital and my own insurance.
