Male RN gets to pay more?

Published

HI

Does Male RN gets to pay more? since there is not much male nurse around in state.. ? Im currently going for RNS degree, I can speak Chinese , spanish , english... . would I get pay more because I can speak more languages? and whats the rate for RN? I stil have one more year to go!!!!!

thanks!!!

An interesting subject that effects all.

The 'old school' male dominated society would favor men's salaries.

Not exactly like modelling, but Nursing is dominated by women so the men DO have to look out for being lunch meat by bait-and-switch, etc... including using their 'ass'ets to divert your attention. This is ridiculous and insults your integrity, BUT its 'their' dominated industry. So those are the rules of the game (for now), and get used to it. You will learn to contain those hard-ons when it starts effecting your long term pocket book: I certainly have, to some extent any way.

Oh

My

God

Seriously dude? Seriously?

Guess I gotta work my assets some more and get that raise.

Anyway please tell me you were kidding:uhoh3: Otherwise :angryfire

Specializes in icu, er, transplant, case management, ps.

When I first started working, as an RN, in 1971 I got the same pay as the newly hired male nurse. When I satrted working in SW Florida, in May of 1980, a male that was hired when I was earned more then I did. I had a BSN, a Masters in Hospital Administration, four years experience in Administration but he was deemed worth more then I because he could "lift". Where the heck was he, when I herniated a disk in 1988.

Woody,

Being a pack mule deserves additional pay. You've only got one back, and risk that one back every lift. The bottom line is all I've ever experienced is reverse discrimination. All women experience is direct discrimination.

Industry will always use both to beat down current wages and use the cheapest labor possible. But perks for assets used is reasonable, given you have those assets (of course).

But when everyone in the Indirect Admin labor pool who sets and administers rates are female, it is surprising a favorable labor rate like this would happen. They must have 'needed' it for material handling purposes with all small personnel at one time. GOOD, let the ones trying to rip the mules off permanently hurt themselves for trying to save $2/hr (or administering equivalent wages to female counterparts)

Otherwise, I'm not going to lift anything more than anyone else does. After all, you only have so many lifts per lifetime in you, and you better believe that and get paid justly for that as well.
