I am a high school senior, I graduate in june of 2009, I am going to go to a community collge here in houston for two semesters, get my pre requisites and then I am applying in the fall of 2010 for the ADN program at a CC. I was wondering what the advanges were of me being a male trying to get i the medical field. I am currrently a C.N.A and I believe I already have a good start because I am the youngest C.N.A working at the rehab center where I work, and I am the only male. I look foward to getting some anwsers!
thanks Christian

Thats awesome man. I did the exact same thing as you at your age. Worked as a CNA in a nursing home during senior year of high school, then as an EMT, RN and now I am a CRNA. Your main advantage is that you are a teenager and already know basically what you are getting into. Being a male helps in that you tend to get a little more respect from staff and superiors, but in the long run; your integrity, honor and virtue will play a much greater role in your endeavors and success. My advice to you is to ask as many questions as possible. Seek out opportunities rather than waiting for them to come to you. Finally, always appear interested in the things people try to teach you while at work (even if they are boring). This will come back to help you in surprisingly unexpected ways in the future. There are endless opportunities in nursing. It is a great job with many benefits. Good luck dude.
