Makati medical center- cetn 2012

Hello, my fellow Filipino Nurses!

I'd like to talk about the CETN program in Makati Medical Center.

Last September, I was advised by a friend of mine who is currently a staff nurse in MMC, that they are already open for application for the CETN.

CETN is a training program for nurses who would like to work in MMC. This is NOT a direct hire post. Accepted applicants will go through 2-month training and then eventually, they COULD be absorbed/ hired as a staff.

This has been an on-going program in MMC for years now, but the difference this year, is that the nurses who get accepted will no longer pay the fee of 10,000 PHP.

The process that I went through started with submitting basic credentials like TOR, Board Certificate, and of course, your updated resume. They will screen the applicants from there, based on their board rating I guess, and the school you graduated from makes a big difference. You will be instructed to wait for their call, for usually 2 weeks.

In my case, they called within the week from my submission. I submitted my credentials on a Tuesday; they called me Friday that same week to invite me to come for the exam. The exam was scheduled the next Monday.

After the exam, you will undergo the initial interview. Mine was set 2 days after the exam which was a Wednesday. The initial interview consists of basic questions about yourself, your educational and work background (if any) and there are some personal questions too.

They instructed me to undergo medical examination that same day, and gave me a list of requirements to complete.

I completed the medical exam about 2 weeks after the initial interview. MEDICAL EXAM FOR CETN IS FREE. IT IS COVERED BY MMC. Should you withdraw your application though, they would require you to pay.

I was instructed to wait for a call/ text from HR regarding the schedule of my final interview; they texted 2 weeks after the completion of my medical exam.

The final interview went smoothly; it was a one on one encounter, not the usual panel interview. It lasted for 30 minutes. The questions were about nursing knowledge. They would evaluate how much you have retained and of course your application of that knowledge. Most of the questions were situational.

They called to inform me that I passed the final interview 2 weeks later. And asked me to wait for another call, as a go-signal to pass the requirements they asked me to complete earlier in the process. They also mentioned that the training would probably start in the first quarter of next year (2013), 2nd quarter would be the latest.

I asked a few questions, by the way, on that last conversation with HR. I asked whether we would be given an allowance or any compensation during training, how long the training would last and the probability and duration after training of getting hired.

They couldn't give me an exact answer regarding the allowance or compensation during training because they haven't finalized everything yet. The training would last 2 months and eventual hiring would depend on your performance and vacancies. All these would be evaluated first. According to my friend though, it will only take a week after training then they would call you right away for employment.

That was my experience. I'm still waiting now, they said they would probably call on the first week of January.

Please feel free to comment! I would appreciate more input regarding this. The forum I was following is already closed and I don't have any more resources. If you have any intel regarding the CETN program, please, please comment!

I think if you're board rating is above 80% it's for a staff nurse position.

Hi! yes my board rating is above 80%. i am just worried because they didn't indicate in the text if it is for a staff nurse position.

Hi BlueLagoon! I am also having a problem getting cleared in my medical. They referred me to a hematologist and was diagnosed with mild thalassemia. My hematologist told me not to worry about my condition and gave me a clearance. But the EHC said that I should repeat my cbc after 1 month after taking iron supplements prescribed by my hematologist. After 1 month, i visited my hematologist and she is quite shocked because I am wasn't cleared at this time. She explained to me that nothing will change, I will be anemic forever. So she is wndering why the EHC requested for another cbc knowing that my hemoglobin will be forever low. Huhuhuhu. I am taking folic acid as my maintenance. Then I went to EHC and passed my latest cbc. they told me that the head will have her final evaluation on my case. I called the HR and asked for the results, they told me to wait for a call or text. Dunno what to do next :/ I spent almost 10k :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Hi lalasemia! Oh my, 10K just for those referrals? What did the EHC require you to do? Did you have several repeat labs? Maybe the EHC was not informed of this scenario- the lifelong low hemoglobin? Maybe they overlooked this particular fact of your case..I just got home from my follow-up at the EHC today and the HR gave me two referrals- one for the sonomammogram that I need and one for the hematology referral. I'm still praying for me to be cleared on this matter and nothing abnormal with come out of these referrals. BTW, how long has it been since the HR said they'll contact you for the evaluation? I think that for cases like us- those with numerous referrals- the HR will put our applications on the bottom of the list. But let's just pray and hope that everything will be alright.

Hello, I'm new here and I found this forum very helpful. I just finished my initial exam up to final interview for just one week. Now, I'm waiting for call if I pass or fail the final interview. I'm very nervous because it's been 2days already. My batch mate who had been recently hired there said that they are for medical already just right after the final interview. Now, my emotions are really intense cause I really want to push on this application. I hope they'll call or text me soon.

Hi iamnursemj! If you reside within makati you can simply follow-up the results of your final interview with the HR. I had my final interview on the 21st and the NSD instructed us to follow up the results the next day. On the 22nd, I was already at the hospital when I received their text message that I passed the final interview. :p You can personally follow it up at the HR.

I spent almost 10k for my dental, repeat lab test, consultation with my hema, meds, etc. The HR told me last month to wait for their text or call but I went directly to the HR and ask for the evaluation. They told me that the head of the clinic said that I should repeat my cbc after taking my iron supplements for 1 month. After 1 month, I passed my repeat cbc to the EHC and said that the head will have the final evaluation again. They told me that they forward it already to the HR. HR told me thru phone conversation to wait for their text or call about the the evaluation. Hmmm. I have a clearance from my hema twice already. I don't know if the head of the clinic will give consideration. The final say is on the head of the clinic. I don't know how long will I wait :((((((((

I see. We'll really have to undergo thorough screening for these hema referrals. I wonder why the HR still won't clear you. BTW, did you use any HMO for your hema consultations? or did u pay for the CF? Do u know how much it will cost? That 10k could get you a decent training in another institution that doesn't have strict medicals. :(

There are many hematologists in MMC. You can choose whoever you want. Their consultation fees are not standard. It ranges from 500 to 800 pesos I think. I paid for my own consultation :((( Huhuhu

Oh my. I think I'll be spending much more than what you did. I still have to accomplish my dental clearance (w/c BTW requires me to have my impacted wisdom tooth be removed surgically), plus those sonograms and hema referrals. waaaahh~~I never knew these medicals were so expensive. But I'll still push for it tho. :(

@CGHCNalum how was your medical? How was the HR's response to it?

Those medical exam issues sound business for me. As a requirement for pre employment, you just need a recommendation of "fit to work" ranging from category a-C. They are very strict and very costly.

You're right Chasing Dreams. I received the results of my other two referrals (UTZ and hematology) and they found something on the UTZ, which rendered me unfit for work. Ergo, the end of my application process. It was so frustrating because I was willing to undergo necessary actions for me to be cleared on that UTZ result, but then the MD in the EHC explained to me that once they find results that need close monitoring, the HR wouldn't hire you. I was so sad yesterday that I cried in front of the MD. Imagine all the effort I spent on those exams, the stress I went through on those interviews, And the money I had to shell out. Those referrals are super costly, so that's correct- if you really do have 'sabit' or strong family history of genetic diseases, don't go further than passing the final interview. Because the medicals will surely take the toll on you.

Hi guys! Sorry to hear that you weren't able to get through the medicals, but don't lose hope, maybe there are better opportunities waiting for you :) Anyway, regarding their medical examination, I think it's beneficial for both MMC and the applicant. For the applicant, in case something has been detected from the labs/diagnostics (hopefully none!!!), then you are at least aware of it already and you can manage it as early as now. I have batchmates who were on hold for a while for findings in their urinalysis, or those who needs to have their wisdom tooth extracted, but still they were able to undergo the training. For MMC, I think it will be costly for them to hire an employee who has the potential to miss his/her work because of her health condition (having other staff work beyond their shift / OT, or pulling out staff from other units just to replace the absentee) and of course to spend for their employee's treatment just in case he/she will need it in the future. I think this is the SOP with all other companies, it's just that MMC is much more stricter, maybe because nurses should really have a body that can withstand shifting schedule, extended working hours, NPO for the whole shift hehe, etc!
