hi all! i have been going to a local community college where i live for the last two years taking my pre-req's for their rn program. i also just applied to a nearby lpn school and got accepted! i am still currently waiting for my letter to arrive on acceptance into the rn program. the lpn program i will be in will take only one year and then i will go right into what they call the "fast-track" program into rn school for a year. do any of you think that it would be wise to do the lpn-to-rn program first instead of diving right into the rn program? i believe that it could possibly give me more hands-on experience and knowledge plus i have all my rn nursing pre-req's behind me and they are good for four years. i haven't been out of high school for almost going on three years but work a random part-time job and i also am recently engaged and wanted to try to make a living so i can afford to pay for rn school and just stand on my own two feet. i have heard lots of negative criticism about going to lpn and then back to rn instead of taking the offer to go in rn first. i however am getting this sign from god what to do and that is do the lpn first.i know that if i do the lpn first then i will not hesistate and wait to go back to get my rn degree.i am very determined and will not let anything stand in my way.

I am happy with my decision to become a LPN first. It lessened the pressure on me when I went for my RN. Good luck.

Me, too. I did the LPN program first. It made the RN program WAY easier for me. It would also be nice for you to be able to work weekends as an LPN, that makes some nice money without major time commitments while in school for the RN. I did per diem weekends as an LPN while in school to be an RN. I made as much as working full time as a CNA. You just have to stay on track and not decide that the LPN pay rate is adequate... You have to stay focused and keep going to school if your goal is to be an RN.

Maybe we are all nuts in this business. I'm depressed and have nothing but anxiety trying to find work I like. Guess I'm stuck in boring old homecare for LIFE.
