Mail management while traveling

It's been difficult to manage while I'm out of town. I just found out that my post office sent everything "return to sender." I don't like the forward option and have never tried a PO box. What is working best for you?

Americas-Mailbox Home - mail forwarding - Americas-Mailbox

Escapees RV Club

These seem to be the two most full-time RV'ers use, but should work for anyone needing mail forwarding service. No personal experience but have done research on them for future reference.

Why did the PO do that? The best (and cheapest) answer may be to put a hold on your mail and pick it up when you get back. Do you get anything important? All my bills are paid automagically.

I understand that my PO will only Hold for 30 days. I just hav'nt found the perfect fit. I will check out America's mail box and Rv escape. Mail Forward won't send packages or magazines Forward to a different address and its difficult to get the Forward to cancel after 13 weeks. {Through the computer any way}

Was your forward with the PO current? They last a year generally. Sometimes items get returned because the address isn't exactly correct - for instance it could say 101 W 1st St instead of 101 W 1st Ter. Your mail person will generally deliver it correctly, but a forward won't work on it.

Have you talked to your local clerk, post master or mailman about what was going on? It could have been a simple misunderstanding, or a case of a wrong box checked on the forward request....

I work for the post office currently while I'm in nursing school (my husband does as well) and if it were us traveling, I would set everything up as autopay and get as many electronic statements as they offer. For the rest, I would double check that addresses on file with those companies are correct, then put in a correct & accurate forward with the PO. I would also talk to our mail person so she knows what the situation is, that helps sometimes.

Most of the forwards are done automatically by computer (which makes me wonder if there was a problem with your forward, since EVERYTHING got sent back), but ones with bad address or ones the computer can't read are done manually by the mail carrier, and that's where mistakes can come in, especially when subs work :)

Or maybe you had the forwarding address wrong, or the post office at the new address hadn't received your customer card yet and sent it all back. Lots of possibilities of what went wrong.

Do you have any family that could help you? I had my mail forwarded to my dad's PO box, then he kept sticky labels with my current address on it and stuck it right overtop the other address. That way I didn't have to keep changing my address every so many weeks or months, I just had to update my dad. My parents work at the PO and that was their best suggestion.

Just go with these guys, they are cheap and they consolidate everything to make it all faster and less expensive. I have never had a problem with them http://www.beinus.com/traveling-nurse-mail.php
