Mad at myself

Published

I have had a 97% all through finite mathematics. My instructor scheduled 3 quizzes and 2 assignments to be due on the Friday before Labor Day. I took all of them and scored 100% (she always has all of these lengthy quizzes for this online course). I always do perfectly on my homework. She had a test due on the day after Memorial Day and I kept telling myself it was on Tuesday. Well I got my days confused because of the holiday and went to take the test on Wednesday. Of course I wasn't able to. When I realized my mistake I wrote her an email. She responded that its not her policy to extend test due dates. I don't really like her, but I don't blame her at all. The tests are weighted at 55% and now my grade is at a 68.7% :(. I have two more tests left so hopefully I can bring my grade up, but I don't think it will be an A.... Sigh* The only person I can blame is myself. It's really shocking for me to see such a low grade especially after I made it through statistics with a 98%. Thanks for listening everybody.

I have taken a lot of classes online, don't loose hope, they usually will offer a grace test reopen or extra credit after the midway point. This isn't always true, but it often is. Mistakes like that are frustrating, but don't let it steal all hope, let it motivate you to put measures in place to prevent it from happening again, and move forward.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the inspiring words:). It's taken a few days, but I'm feeling much better about it,

I think this is one of the cons of taking an online course...sometimes the test dates can become confusing or easily forgotten because online instructors almost never mention anything about it. So you have to extremely organized. Unfortunately it seems like she's not flexible, and you might have to just live with that. Just A's the remaining assignments and tests. Hopefully she'll take that into consideration when she fill in your final grade.

I've probably taken about 15 online courses now and have never had a problem. Each instructor has their own way of organizing things. Unfortunately her organization has no rhyme or reason to it and its hard to follow. For example, she uses the discussion board more like an email account and will post to it 10 or more times a day... And expect responses. Normally an instructor will pose a topic or question for the discussion board and its our responsibility to respond appropriately and comment on others.
