  1. I'm finishing my first nursing semester, I work part time, and I am a mother of 3 young children...if I didn't take the time to read a few mindless historical romance novels I'd crack...they are my sanity. I usually start and finish 1 a week. (I download them on my phone and read whenever I get a moment alone)
  2. We joke about it together, but we will complete this journey together, all of us, including my 3 kids. My BSN signifies sacrifice and hard work given by each member of our family, as each will benefit from it. Team mentality is important for our family, we don't journey alone, we bare each other's burdens, that's what being a family is for us. But I also tease him that he needs a hobby
  3. I live in this area. The PCC nursing students have a great reputation for producing desired local nurses. Mainly because the school fosters healthy work habits and ethics. As far as accreditation and needing to move, I can't help you. But your local experience and education would probably be fine, if that's what you desire. Of course, that's all my opinion based on my experiences.
  4. What clinical group did you get? I'm in Tuesdays group
  5. I took A&P 1/2 online (labs on campus). It was a very interesting class, lots of studying, and reading. But it is all very interesting. Stay completely engaged throughout the course, if you begin to fall behind it will become overwhelming...understanding is absolutely crucial, as all the other sciences will build on it. Nothing seemed difficult to grasp, but it takes time to take it all in.
  6. As a soon to be nursing student I have little to offer from the nurses perspective. However, I wonder if we may be missing the bigger picture? If these policies were practiced, and the drs. were aware, then maybe the facility used the last instance as a reason to let you go. Maybe you weren't a great fit to the team? Everyone has worked with someone who doesn't mesh well with the group. Whether they were too clique ish or you may need to do some self reflection (it seems you have begun), it seems that you can learn and move forward. I recommend a resume counselor resource and also meeting with a counselor (like someone else suggested). Good luck on your journey.
  7. I took the class online at Pensacola state, I had a difficult teacher, but it was fine.
  8. All great suggestions...but I wanted to share one thing my dad always tells me (and I wish I knew where he found the study so I could site it) He says, "A study found that you can get 80% of the benefits of a weekly work out with only 1-2 days of workout days accomplished". Basically, it doesn't have to be "all or nothing," something is always better than nothing. Taking a jog once a week is still beneficial, not ideal, but it is worth doing. I always found this encouraging, because I have a tendency to be "all or nothing" and then give up.
  9. We live where it rains a lot and it gets really hot outside. One of my children has some pretty bad eczema spots and the sweat makes it burn and he can't swim in anything but salt water most days because of it...needless to say, activities for him are difficult sometimes. (Luckily he has no weight issues). I can suggest two things: I don't let my children snack all day long, otherwise they are never hungry enough to actually eat their veggies later. I have set meal times (which includes a mid morning snack and afternoon snack). I have one exception, there is a bowl I keep full of fruit, they never have to ask and can always eat from that bowl. Second, during the hot times of day and rainy days we play the wii dance games...and I tell you what, we laugh and sweat like crazy.
  10. Thank you for the info. I've been very anxious to know details, and I was wondering if I'd missed an email. I need to set up childcare for my 3 children and that's difficult to do if you don't know what the schedule will be. :/ Oh well, I'm just grateful to begin the journey.
  11. I found them to be equally as challenging. If you really master the first sciences it will make it a little easier for the other courses, because all the concepts are built on. I found A&P 1 the most challenging...but that's probably because it had been 12 years since I'd had a science course and one of my first online classes (Stella had to get her groove back :) ). But I aced them all and loved every minute. Having a good teacher will probably dictate the level of difficulty...
  12. ^this is key...time management skills. You need to develop the discipline and skills to not let yourself go lax. If you get a moment to study, you must study! Always assume something could get in the way of finishing an assignment on time, so finish everything a day early (give yourself some wiggle room) Also, your baby will become more self reliant with each passing month, don't rush through it. Babies change so fast, in 6 months he/she will be doing all kinds of new things, like mostly sleeping through the night I began my prerequisite journey in the last trimester with my third child. He is now two, and I will begin my first semester in nursing school this fall. I made mistakes, but I figured out a system that worked for me. Good Luck!
  13. I have taken a lot of classes online, don't loose hope, they usually will offer a grace test reopen or extra credit after the midway point. This isn't always true, but it often is. Mistakes like that are frustrating, but don't let it steal all hope, let it motivate you to put measures in place to prevent it from happening again, and move forward.
  14. You might really enjoy a trip to the Appalachian mountains. It's a beautiful area, with a rich southern and Native American history. There are also some very poor areas that are in desperate need. Good luck in you journey. I'm from the panhandle of Florida, less than an hour away from Alabama. Sometimes it can have a bit of a closed minded feel, but overall the communities are working hard to bridge the gap.
  15. Hey, I live local but a friend of mine works for remax and he said he can give you a list of properties to help you narrow your search and he will help you take it from there. Tell him Lauren sent you. His email is: [email protected]
