Does anyone have any information as to what the average grade point and Hesi scores are for this year? How many people actually applied for the program and took the Hesi? When does Macomb usually send out acceptance letters?

Also, even though the criteria is different this year, any idea as to what the lowest scores/gpa were for acceptance last year?

Thanks

I think if you do a search on this site for MCC you will find some threads with scores from the previous years. I got in last year and I know we had a huge post about scores and acceptance letters and such. I think I got my letter around mid to late April. I had a 94.9 HESI and a 3.89 GPA and I ranked 41. I think they accepted about 120 people but last I heard they have gone through about 20 alternates to start in March. I wish I could help more but since they changed the criteria everyone kind of has to go in blind this year!

Good luck! The program is hard work but I am loving it for the most part.

Thank you for the information and congratulations on your success in the program!

I do have one more question regarding the requirements that changed for this year (A&P, Micro or Patho and english are needed before you apply). Do you think that a lot of people had already taken these courses before they were accepted into the nursing program?

This waiting is horrible! lol

Not everyone had Micro and A&P done when I got in. Although if you didn't have them both done they used that as a factor in your ranking. I had a friend who took micro during the first semester of nursing and she said it was not fun at all. I took micro after I was accepted, in the summer.

I am kind of sad about the new changes because now they require you to have those classes done before you can apply. I have 2 out of 3 done so I was unable to apply for this year. I am hoping I am able to get in next year.

I had just decided this past summer to try for nursing so I had to carry A & P and Patho at the same time - it was a very stressful semester! Good luck to you for next year!

Hi,

Last year they took about 160, the March group are not alternates. They have increased the number they are accepting. I have not heard for this year if it will be the same amount. Good luck to you :)

I didn't mean to say the March group are alternates, just that they have offered March start to at least 20 people who were alternates, which means a lot of people turned down the offer.

Well for some people thats definitely a good thing! They will be able to get in a semester sooner. I am hoping when I apply I am able to get in the first time around instead of having to wait. I know the waiting game is awfull!! I have started applying to a few schools out of state seeing as though I am considering moving as well.

Hi,

I looked at my nursing rank letter that the school sent me on 4-7-09 and it listed the average HESI composite scores and GPAs of the previous 3 years:

2006- 90 HESI Composite and 3.8928 GPA

2007- 94 HESI Composite and 3.9375 GPA

2008- 93 HESI Composite and 3.9380 GPA

I hope that helps a little.

I got in for this school year and I just started with the 4th and last entry group for the year, in March. My scores were 92 HESI Composite and 3.7923 GPA.

My letter says that well over 1000 people apply for the program each year. I believe they told us 1400 applied for 2009 when I went to the orientation.

I agree with the other poster about Macomb sending out acceptance letters in April. You'll get the ranking letter first, which will have info like I posted above, then about 2 weeks later, you'll get your acceptance letter.

On the ranking letter, it just tells you if your nursing applicant file is complete or not, and the info I have above. They don't actually rank you until about 2 weeks later. And when I got my acceptance letter, they didn't tell me where I ranked, just that I got in.

It does say that they were accepting 152 students for the Fall 2009 program, but I know that they have gone up to 177 or 178 people because two people in my clinical class are alternates, and one of them just got in 2-3 weeks before our first class.

I hope that helped a little and good luck! You'll get your acceptance letter in about a month!

Hey Gaylord, your message helped a lot! I have about a 3.6 and I got a 97 on the HESI. My GPA is definitely not as high as I want it to be and I have been really nervous about whether or not I stand a chance for the 2010/2011 program..but I think that the average with the HESI score is still competitive for a March start hopefully...thanks for the info! And I love your username by the way haha!

HI MizzGizz,

Glad I could help =) I wouldn't worry too much about your GPA & HESI score. I think it's a great score, especially with the new standards, and I expect to pass you in the halls on your way to your 1500 classes for the 2010/2011 school year.
