MA to a LPN to a RN?

Hello there!

I was wondering what you guys thought about this:

Do you think it would be smart to take a 12 month program for a

MA--work as a MA for a few months and then take a year course for a LPN program--work as a LPN for a few months while taking the RN program. (Please be advise, prereqs might be needed)

Is that too much or what?!?! (I'm 28)

Why not jump right in and take the one year LPN course and skip the MA?

In Calif, the program that hubby is in (ADN -RN) after you're there for awile, you can get CNA, after 6 months you can challenge LVN(LPN) board, after 2 years, you take the RN board.

In PA an LPN takes 1 year plus maybe an extra semester or summer session to do the pre req's. If it's the same in NJ, why not just go for for the LPN?

Not sure what pre requesites are needed for a MA but here LPN pre-req's and RN pre-req's are pretty much the same.

Also, if you are concerned with working a medical related job while going to school Nursing Students that complete their first semster are eligible to take the CNA board exam. At least here in PA.

If you are serious about Nursing I really think you would be wasting time and money doing an MA program. From what I have seen at schools in my area MA's and CNA's are a totally different academic ball game compared to LPN and RN. Meaning, you usually have a different set of pre-req's that could not transfer from a CNA program to an LPN/RN.

I say don't waste your time on anything les than a RN. I used to br a MA. It is almost totally unrelated to nursing.

Like AlaskaRN says, get your LVN and then RN that will save time. But whatever you decide it is not a waste of learning knowledge.
