OK, so I'm looking into getting my M5 designation. Evidentally I'm dense because I'm looking at the regulation and still can't figure it out.

Is the requirement 1500 total hours (which, if my math is correct can be done in 10 months) in the ER or 1500 hours AND 2 years in the ER.

LunahRN,

Was just browsing for information regarding BOLC and came across your conversation about the M5 identifier and then realized that you are going to Chamberlain. I also saw that you are in the EBP course, which I am too, however, I think we're obviously with different instructors because I don't recognize your name. Anyway, just wanted to pick your brain and find out what you're doing to ensure an M5 identifier when you go in. I've been commissioned and have my orders into the AMEDD STRAP. I would like to ensure that I can get the identifier so that I don't have to pull my hair out being a 66H and working on med/surg. Any info would greatly be appreciated! New to this arena, so thanks for your help!!

You're further along than I am, so I'm really not the authority! :) I've turned in a letter of hours worked and a skills checklist that my clin spec did for me to request the M5, and I've been told by a friend of mine (who was an ICU reservist) to make sure that the identifier is in my commissioning papers.

Do you just have the capstone left for Chamberlain? I am so happy to be nearly done!

If not in the contract ensure you have a Memorandum stating the same. The subject line should read "Award of Classification Identifiers for Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Officers".

Thanks, jeckrn! :) My reservist friend who was supposed to have her ICU identifier didn't get it initially, and had to jump through hoops to get it later. She said (wisely), "Get it in writing!" Good to know it can show up in a couple of forms -- contract or memo.

LunahRN,

I have the DA Form 7654 and had it filled out, but I've not heard that it had to be part of my commissioning packet. I need to look into that!

Yes, I have my Capstone course and an economics course that I dropped a few semesters ago. How is your EBP course? The instructor I have is awful. Absolutely no help at all! Anyway, thanks for the response!

Ha ha ... are you sure you're not in my class??? ;) Seriously, my instructor wasn't bad, but she was a little ... absent, I guess is the best word for it. Then I was emailing her and not receiving responses, but it turns out my emails went into her spam folder, and she wrote me apologizing -- really, that wasn't her fault! I'm glad it's pretty much done, though. I've done the last quiz and turned in my last assignment and done my required forum posts ... ready for capstone! :) I did Econ a couple of semesters ago -- it was interesting, but I spent the first few weeks feeling like an idiot because so much of the vocabulary was foreign!

Keep me posted on your progress!! :)

What name do you go by in our class, because it sounds like you're in the same class!!! My professor is Rand. She NEVER posts and when you ask her a question it is so vague you may as well not even have asked her. I was emailing her as well due to some personal issues and she wasn't getting back to me. Then out of nowhere I got a very short response of sympathies and a good luck in class. Oh well!! I can't wait to be finished - COMPLETELY!!! All I want is to be able to apply for BOLC and get back into the military swing of things. I can't believe how much I've missed it!! My husband and I put on our Class A uniforms from the "old" days and it felt so good!! Anyway, have you done your physical yet? When is your packet suppose to go to the board? Are you seriously going in or are you just thinking about it? I can't get over what a long process this whole thing has been. I just now started receiving my stipend that I was told I would start getting a year ago. So much for assistance while in school. I'm to the point where I don't even care. All I want are my orders!!! Anyway, it's been good talking to you and I hope all goes well with you. Dido on the keeping posted on progress!!! :)

My physical is June 9th, and my packet will go to the board at the beginning of the next fiscal year -- they closed recruiting for M5 already for this FY, unfortunately -- like two weeks after I met with my recruiter, she was so bummed! So was I. I'm seriously going in! I'll send you a PM. :)
