LVNs and Klonopin

I am an LVN in Texas, and I have a prescription for Klonopin. Are there any restrictions, legal or otherwise, against me working under the influence of Klonopin?

I would check with the BON. Doesn't Klonopin have a S/E of sleepiness? If I recall correctly, it can be used as a sleep inducer, so I'd be careful taking it before work. JMHO

I would worry about sleepiness/drowiness as well. You may need to start this drug on your days off to monitor the effects. Then you can adjust your med times depending on the side effects...

my mother is on that(high dosage), she's very small..it makes her talk alot and kinda jittery. everyone has different affects. but i can tell u she certainly doesn't get sleepy.

I know a woman who has been practicing as an LVN in Texas for the past 18 years. She has taken Klonopin 0.5mg daily for the past 15 years and functions well on the drug. I do not know the legalities of the situation, though.

funny you should ask that. i work at a state hospital in my little town and pass out klonopin/clonazepam, daily. it does have a sleepiness/ drowsiness side effect, however the side effects are not the same for everyone. i know this cause some of my patients take it and never fet sleepy or drowsy.

If I were you I would seek the advice of my MD. I would also start the med when off from work to see what SE it has on you. I know he gave you a script for it, but if you are unable to do your job, then you are placing people at risk, and your license. Good luck, and congratulations for getting help for yourself before it became to much!!!! This may sound condisending (SP?) but I am proud of you.:wink2:
