LVN Schools, help!

My name is Paula, I am a former student at Navarro College and I am interested in the Vocational Nursing program at Navarro. I am seeking to advance my career in Nursing and I am currently working as a CNA in a long-term care facility here in Dallas. My ultimate goal is to become an RN, but for now I am seeking a vocational program that is accredited and will help me into eventually bridging to an RN program without fear of my credits not being transferable. I am looking at a school near me in Dallas, called Dallas Nursing Institute and they start classes every three months I think but the cost is very steep. I'm also not sure if receiving my LVN there would be a good idea because it is a trade school and I'm not sure if any of my credits would transfer to an RN program. I am very reluctant to following through with Dallas Nursing Institute due to the bad reviews I've seen. I also went to visit Dallas Nursing Institute today and I am scheduled to take the Hesi on June 3, 2014. The admissions representative also mentioned that drawing blood and administering IV's is not a part of the vocational nursing curriculum which brought me to a halt as well. I am looking for any good accredited vocational nursing programs that are around. I would like to start as soon as possible and would like any insight from anyone who knows more about this than I do. Thanks! :)

Hi, there. Welcome to Allnurses.com!

I am also in the DFW area. If I were you, I'd stick with Navarro College because the end result will be a certificate of vocational nursing and an LVN license, so you might as well travel on the pathway that costs less money.

This is true. IV therapy and blood draws are not traditional aspects of LVN curriculum in Texas schools, and therefore, will be taught to you by your future employers if they require these skills of you. I started as an LVN before becoming an RN and I still do not know how to draw blood because the lab has done it at every place where I have worked.

Good luck to you.

Thank you! I was not aware that IV therapy and blood draws are not a part of LVN curriculums. I hear LVN's also make the BEST RN's in the long run!! :)

Hey LunaPaula , I also went to Navarro college and did all my prerequisites there in waxahachie. I am now a RN student in Corsicana. Navarro had a great LVN program and also has a bridge program so when your ready you can just continue with the same school. I love the program, instructors, and my class mates they get you prepared and ready for giving safe compassionate patient care... Give them a call. LVN AT WAXAHACHIE and Corsicana campuses
